Background of designing

    Imitation is a part of test in the oral English exam. The classes taught by the designer are art

    classes of senior3 and most of the students will take part in the exam. So the class is designed

    with a knowledge of English phonetics and the story from Good English.

Teaching Objectives

    1.Target language

    1)knowledge of English phonetics: incomplete explosion, liaison and assimilation

    2)word: trainers

    3)useful expression: I’m feeling green.

    2.Ability target

    1Students will be able to develop their skill of imitation.

    1)Train the students to develop the spirit of competition, cooperation and perseverance..

    2)Influence the students with the idea of saving.

Teaching Important Points

    1.Students will be able to acquire the knowledge of English phonetics.

    2.Students will be able to follow the steps of imitation to imitate more effectively.

    1.mark the stressed words , and the linking of sounds or words while listening .

    2.Introduce the story in less than six sentences.

Teaching Procedures

    Step 1: Greetings (1 minutes)

Step 2: Leading-in(3 minutes)


    Play the video to show that children should learn a language by imitation and that imitation is a good and effective way to learn English well, because imitation is a part of test in the oral English exam.

    So the students need a lot of practice.

Step 3: Pre-imitation (10 minutes)

    To imitate effectively, get the students to learn a knowledge of English phonetics such as incomplete plosion,liaison and assimilation.

Step 4:while-imitation (15 minutes)

    Steps of imitation(3 minutes)

    1.Choose suitable materials

     We’d better choose tapes or CDs recorded by native English speakers and short sentences at the beginning.

    2.Read the sentences

    3.Listen to the tape carefully, mark the stressed words and the linking of sounds or words.

    4.Follow the tape or CD sentence by sentence several times, pay much attention to the pronunciation ,intonation and emotion.

    5.Show what you’ve imitated.

    Practice(12 minutes)

    1.Ask the students to introduce the story Cool Clive chosen from Good English in less than six sentences to get a better understanding of the story so as to imitate the intonation and emotion later.

    2.Choose two parts to imitate individually and then in groups.

Step 5:Post-imitation ( 8 minutes)

    1.Share the students products.

    2.Lead the students to conclude that money does not grow on trees.

    It’s not easy to earn money. Save money and use their money wisely.

Step 6: Summary(3 minutes)

    3. Encourage students to keep on practicing, they are sure to make great progress in English through imitation.

Step 7: Homework

    1.Imitate the last part of the learning material.

    2.Choose one of the following questions to answer.

    3)Do you think Clive should accept the reward after saving the sinking bag?
