    To be read with Preliminaries/ General conditions.

010 INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED WITH TENDER

    Submit:

    - Information listed in SPERW, table 1.1.

    - Other Information: [

    o Proposals for reducing noise and vibration from piling operations.

    o Typical pile record sheets and confirmation that a complete record sheet will be

    produced for every pile.

    o Where piles are contractor designed (clause 210) insert, e g. Pile design basis

    and calculations.

    o Proposals for ensuring possible lateral loads from ground influenced by trees will

    not damage the piles.__]

    SERVICES AFFECTED BY PILING

020 B SERVICES REGULATIONS

    Any work carried out to or which affects new or existing services must be in accordance with

    the byelaws or regulations of the relevant statutory authority.

022 B LOCATION OF SERVICES

    Locate and mark the positions of services affected by the work. Arrange with the appropriate

    authorities for the location and marking of the positions of mains services.

024 B DISCONNECTION OF SERVICES

    Before starting piling arrange with the appropriate authorities for the disconnection of

    services and removal of fittings and equipment.

    There are existing services under the proposed building. It is anticipated diversion works will

    be carried out by the main Contractor. The specialist piling subcontractor must satisfy

    themselves that services have been removed.

030 B DISCONNECTION OF DRAINS

    Locate and disconnect all disused drain connections. Seal within the site to approval.

    There are no known sewers crossing the site. As the site is currently a playing field some

    land drains may be encountered.

036 B SERVICES WHICH ARE TO REMAIN

    Notify the CA and service authority or owner of any damage. Make all arrangements for

    repair to the satisfaction of the CA and service authority or owner. Bear any costs arising.

    GENERAL

110 PILING SPECIFICATION

    Standard: Comply with the current edition of the „Specification for Piling and Embedded

    Retaining Walls‟ (SPERW).

    Substitution of British Standard for SPERW requirements: Submit proposals for approval if

    relevant.

    References to Engineer in SPERW: For the purpose of this contract, interpret such

    references as being the person named in section A10 as administering the contract on behalf

    of the Employer.

112 B PILING MAT

    The design of the piling mat is the responsibility of the Contractor.

    - Piling platform level: Proposed level to be 12.6m AOD. (400mm below FFL)

    - Design and construction details: Submit.

    Timing: 21 days before start of construction of piling mat.

    Standard: To SPERW, sections 2-6 and 20, as appropriate to the pile type.

    Permitted types: Contractors Choice

    Particular specification: Submit proposals to cover the SPERW requirements listed under this

    heading for the chosen pile type. Other requirements: Noise and Dust must not impact on the users of the adjacent school.

     Selected piles will need to resist lateral movement of ground where influenced by trees.

     Attention is drawn to the lateral and moment loads that will be applied to the piles.

    SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

210 CONTRACTOR DESIGN

    Standard: To BS 8004.

    Requirement: Complete design of piles and construct in accordance with SPERW, clause 1.4

    option 1.

    Pile layout: The pile layout will be determined by Clarkebond. Generally there will be single

    piles under each column plus additional isolated piles under ground slabs.

    Site investigation: Confirm as adequate or propose further investigation as considered

    necessary.

230 GROUND INVESTIGATION

    Report: Available. A project specific site investigation has been carried out by Terrafirma. A

    draft report has been produced in October 2007 and is available.

    Datum for borehole logs: Existing ground levels. A topographical survey is available.

250 PERFORMANCE CRITERIA FOR STRUCTURE TO BE SUPPORTED ON THE PILES

    Requirement: Drive pile until minimum specified pile penetration is achieved and, until

    following are achieved:

    Set: Submit proposals.

    Energy rating of hammer: Provide evidence that energy imparted to pile by proposed

    hammer will be satisfactory and that hammer has been maintained and checked in

    accordance with hammer manufacturer‟s instructions.

    Minimum requirement for strengthening pile head prior to driving: Submit proposals.

    Supplier: Firm holding a valid certificate of approval issued under a product certification

    Substandard performance: Give notice if the performance of any pile will be less than that of

    a similar pile whose test behaviour has been accepted.

685 EXCAVATED MATERIAL

    Disposal: By main contractor.

687 B EXCAVATED MATERIAL CLASSIFIED FOR RE-USE ON SITE

    All excavated material designated for re-use on site, considered contaminated at a location

    remote from the original point of excavation must have approval from the Environment

    Agency for use as filling. Excavated materials must not be mixed or blended for re-use on

    site without the agreement of the Environment Agency

    Transportation of excavated materials shall be in accordance with:

    ; The Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Duty of Care) as laid down by the Environment

    Agency

    ; Planning conditions

    ; Health and Safety Executive (HS(G)66) - “Protection of workers and the general public during

    the development of contaminated land”.

735 METHOD OF TESTING CONCRETE WORKABILITY

    Test: To BS 8500-1, Annex B.

    Workability: To SPERW, table 3.1.

    Test method:

    - Slump testing: For mixes with workability type A as SPERW, table 3.1.

    - Flow testing: For higher workability mixes, unless agreed otherwise.

740 COMPRESSION TESTING OF CONCRETE

    Requirement: In addition to any sampling and testing carried out by the concrete supplier,

    and unless otherwise agreed, sample concrete on site and test.

    Sampling rate: 1 sample of 4 cubes per 12 cubic meters of concrete or 1 sample per day.

    Whichever is most.

755 PREPARATION OF PILE HEADS FOR INTEGRITY TESTING

910 HEALTH AND SAFETY FILE

    Requirement: Collate and submit a full set of pile records for inclusion in the health and

    safety file.

    Content:

    - Record drawings: With each pile numbered and giving the „as built‟ location of each pile

    relative to project grid lines.

    - Records: Copy of each record submitted during the progress of the work.

    Latest date for submission: 14 days from departure of the piling rig from site.
