Inside-the-box thinking sparks the release of super-premium wine brand, Brown Box Wines

WOODINVILLE, WA; August 19, 2011 - Washington Wine and Beverage Company (WWBC) has introduced the first vintage dated, super-premium boxed wine from the state of Washington.

WWBC, which has been producing award-winning Washington wines for over 25 years, is now drawing on its expertise and expanding into the boxed wine market. The company has launched its Brown Box Wines brand with the three hottest boxed varietals, Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay and a customer (and critic) favorite, Riesling.

Brown Box Wines use only the best fruit found in the state of Washington and then carefully controls the wine-making process to insure that every box is filled with the finest wines. To put it simply, Brown Box Wines are great wines in a plain brown box. We at Brown Box Wines believe that it's what's inside that counts,” says

winemaker Bill Ammons. “That is why we have chosen to concentrate our efforts on the wine inside while keeping our container plain and convenient.

Brown Box Wines are sold in a creatively designed 3-liter box and retail for $19.99. They are currently available at select grocery retailers and fine wine merchants throughout the Pacific Northwest and in limited distribution in Alabama, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Michigan and Indiana.

Brown Box Wines have their share of advantages. “Do the math. One box holds the

equivalent of four full-size bottles. That’s under $5 per bottle. Plus, Brown Box Wines compare in flavor and quality with other Washington bottles selling for $15 or more,” says Jeff Wells, Director of Marketing for WWBC. “In today’s economy, consumers

are definitely seeking out quality wines for affordable prices and Brown Box Wines provide the clear benefit of price-to-quality ratio.”

Here’s another reason to love them: Brown Box Wines keep. Inside the cardboard

container is a flavor-neutral, airtight plastic bag that compresses around the remaining wine as you dispense it through the plastic spout. This keeps out the air that would otherwise deteriorate the quality within a few days. Brown Box Wines should last at least a month in the fridge, slightly less on the kitchen counter.

Brown Box Wines use 91% less packaging materials than their equivalent in bottles. This means less material is being produced and less material are sent to landfill. Additionally, boxed wine produces 79% less Greenhouse Gas emissions. “By

purchasing Brown Box Wines, you have the advantage of enjoying great wine while reducing environmental impacts,” says Wells.

Living up to their message of quality, Brown Box Wines have been highly-acclaimed by both the industry and consumers, alike. Each of the four varietals has received both a “Best Buy” and “Recommended” rating from various trade publications as well as over sixteen awards from international wine competitions. Most recently, the 2009 Brown Box Riesling was awarded the Double Gold at the Seattle Wine Awards.
