     The following communication, dated 5 November 2010, is being circulated at the request of the delegation of the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu.


    TITLE: Babies' garments and clothing accessories to be regulated as commodities subject to inspection.

    AGENCY: The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), Ministry of Economic Affairs

    SUMMARY: Babies' garments and clothing accessories were proposed in G/TBT/N/TPKM/87 to be subject to mandatory inspection starting 1 January 2011 to ensure protection of babies. To take into consideration labelling requirements specified in the Labelling Criteria for Apparel and Garments promulgated by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Economic Affairs, babies' garments and clothing accessories will be required to bear the Commodity Inspection Mark, the Roman letter "C" labels printed by the BSMI or the Roman letter "M" with a designated code printed by the applicant under authorization by the BSMI. In addition, the proposed date of entry into force is postponed to

     March 2011. 1
