    Farm Bill Educational Grant Program

THE PURPOSE:

    The 2011 County Farm Bureau Farm Bill Educational Grant is intended to encourage and reward county Farm Bureaus for developing and conducting innovative Farm Bill educational programs in 2011. The intent of the grant is to encourage county Farm Bureaus to work with your local NRCS office to educate farmers about the opportunities in the 2008 Farm Bill. Your educational programs should be designed to help promote conservation programs in the 2008 Farm Bill and facilitate access to county NRCS staff. The available grants are funded by NRCS as they seek to increase conservation delivery in Michigan.

GRANT AMOUNTS:

    Counties are eligible for up to $1,500 in funding for NRCS educational programs. An additional amount of up to $500 is available for counties that incorporate a “Farmers CARE” message that focuses on the environment in their promotion and content.

ELIGIBILITY:

    All counties are eligible for the grant.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES:

    ; Grant applications must be completed and postmarked for delivery to the Michigan Farm Bureau Ag Ecology

    Department by February 10, 2011.

    ; Projects that receive grant funding shall take place prior to September 1, 2011.

    ; Recipients of the grants will be announced by February 22, 2011.

    ; Those projects selected for grants will receive one-half of the grant at the beginning of the project and the balance

    upon completion of the project and submission of a final written report to the Ag Ecology Department.

    ; Grant payments can be made only to a county Farm Bureau. Payments cannot be made to individuals or to other

    organizations.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

    All applications meeting guidelines will be evaluated by a panel of Farm Bureau judges. Applications will be scored using the following criteria:

    1. Build local relationships with NRCS. (25 points)

    2. Educational content: How does the grant program educate farmers about the NRCS targeted programs; i.e., CSP, EQIP,

    FRPP, GLRI, GRP, WHIP and WRP. (40 points)

    3. Creative use of resources for the program. (10 points)

    4. The project budget clearly defines the budget items and is cost-effective in terms of the project parameters.

    (10 points)

    5. Involves county Young Farmers and/or Promotion & Education committees. (15 points)

FINAL REPORT & PAYMENT:

    Project final reports should be submitted to the MFB Ag Ecology Department, postmarked by September 15, 2011. Payment of

    the balance will be made by October 1, 2011 if the goals of the proposal are met.
