    Applied Linguistics

    I have learned a lot from applied linguistics this term, and thanks must go to both my teacher Zhang Baoguo and my groupmates. Without their generous help, things wouldn't complete so successfully. Now, let me make a list of what I have learned this term.

    First,I know Views of language vary from person to person. Sapir says language is purely human and non-instinctive method of communicating ideas, emotions and desires by means of voluntarily produced symbols. Hall says language is institution whereby humans communicate and interact with each other by means of habitually used oral-auditory arbitrary symbols. Chomsky says language is a set of sentences, each is in length and constructed out of a finite set of elements. Someone says language is a system of arbitrary vocal symbols used for human communication. Second, I get to learn Krashens Monitor Model, Swains Output Hypothesis,

    Longs Interaction Hypothesis, The Acquisition-Learning hypothesis, The Monitor hypothesis, The Natural Order hypothesis, The Input hypothesis, The Affective-Filter hypothesis. Moreover it contains two kinds of acquisitions: Positive transfer and Negative transfer. Third, CAH is Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis is the claim that the principal barrier to SLL is the first language interference, and that a scientific analysis of the two languages in question enables the prediction of difficulties a SL learner will encounter.CA is Contrastive analysis: instruction of the difference between L1 and L2. Four, Error Correction Strategies make up of Recast, Clarification Request, Meta-Linguistic Feedback, Elicitation, Explicit Correction, Repetition. Personally speaking, I appriciate Elicitation most. When we talk about Individual Learner, some affective factors need considering, such as Learning Strategies,Memory, Awareness, Will, and Interest are important to Individual Learner.Wed better know some Learning strategies to make our study efficient.Five, I know many kinds of tests. Proficiency is to test global competence, eg. CET, MET, TOEFL. Diagnostic tests is a kind of test designated to diagnose a particular aspect of a language.Placement tests attempt to place students into certain levels. Achievement tests aim to diagnose how much students should know or have known about what they are learning. For example, the test of Interpretation of intermediate level which conyains written examination and oral Examination. The test has reliability , which is the precondition of a test.It has predictive validity .Interpretation may be some future behavior that we want to predict. It also has construt validity because it can be demonstrated that it measures just the ability which it is supposed to measure.The test considers well of the human resources, material resources and time resources, then of course, it has a high practicality.It also gives test takers a high degree of involvement, so it has interactiveness. Six, I have learned how to design a lesson plan. Major elements show samples

    for summary: theme, goal ,objective, content, procedures. Major elements of lesson plan are theme, goal, and objective concepts and connections. Teaching language Skills are listening, speaking, reading, writing, listening skills.Teaching aims to integrat the four skills, which makes up of content-based, theme-based, and task-based teachings.

    I am moved by teachers passion, but I am sorry that sometimes I think the lesson is a little abstract for me to understand. All in all, I have acquired a lot of strange knowledge. Thank you for your generous offering.
