    3 Definitions

     company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the

    company. They include requirements documented in company and site health and

    safety plans, quality assurance documents, and contract work programmes;

     site procedures refer to the procedures which are required to be observed for safe

    work practices at a particular site;

     job specifications refer to the documented information found in construction drawings,

    project specification documents, legislation, regulations and codes;

     manufacturers’ recommendations refer to product information and product data

    sheets provided by the manufacturer of any given product.

    4 This unit standard applies to both new roof and re-roofing installations on residential

    and commercial sites.

Elements and performance criteria

Element 1

Confirm materials and availability of equipment.

Performance criteria

    1.1 Job is assessed and a plan of work is drawn up in accordance with company

    requirements.

    1.2 Materials confirmed for the job are consistent with the job specifications and

    manufacturers’ recommendations.

    Range includes but is not limited to pan deck roofing, cladding,

    flashings, sealants, fasteners.

    1.3 Equipment availability is confirmed in accordance with the job specifications.

    Range includes but is not limited to scaffolding, ladders, tools, chainsaw,

    stapler, sealant gun, saws, soldering iron, pop riveter.

Element 2

Complete preparations for the installation of pan deck roof.

Performance criteria

2.1 Area is readied in accordance with company requirements.

    2.2 A check is made to ensure purlins are laid in accordance with manufacturers’

    recommendations.

    2.3 Pan deck sheets are marked and pre-drilled, where required, in accordance with

    company requirements.

    2.4 Underlay support is fixed, internal gutters, valleys, and secret flashings are

    installed, and underlay is fixed, in accordance with manufacturers

    recommendations.

    2.5 Provision for expansion and contraction is allowed, and stop end and drip form

    sheets are installed, where required, to manufacturers recommendations.

Element 3

Carry out installation of pan deck roof.

Performance criteria

3.1 Pan deck sheets are installed in accordance with manufacturers

    recommendations.

    Range cut, fix, fix over flashings, vapour barriers.

Element 4

Complete and finish pan deck roof.

Performance criteria

4.1 Accessories are installed in accordance with manufacturers

    recommendations and job specifications.

    4.2 Any defects during installation are corrected in accordance with company

    requirements.

Element 5

Maintain a safe working environment.

Performance criteria

    5.1 Work practices are carried out without injury to people, or damage to equipment,

    building, or plant, in accordance with legislation, regulations, codes, health and

    safety in employment guidelines, and company requirements.

    5.2 Personal protective equipment for the task at hand is selected and worn in

    accordance with site procedures and manufacturers recommendations.

    Range includes but is not limited to hard hat, sunblock, ear muffs, safety

    glasses, gloves, knee pads, high visibility clothing, safety harness.

    5.3 Work area is cordoned off and safety notices and notification of work signs are

    distributed and erected, in accordance with site procedures.

    5.4 Work area is kept clear of debris and unnecessary equipment in accordance

    with company requirements.

    Please note

    Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

    Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

    Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
