    In2007the800kt/aPTAprojectwasconstructedandputon streamattheLiaoyangPetrochemicalCompany.Currently theLiaoyangPetrochemicalCompanyboaststhefollowing aromaticsandtheirderivativesproductioncapacity,namely 700kt/aparaxylene,150kt/abenzene,60kt/ametaxylene,

    800kt/aPTA,700kt/aaromaticsextraction,500kt/apolyester, 140kt/apureadipicacidandtheassociated180kt/anitric acid.Furthermore,the1.4Mt/aCCRunitandthe1.3Mt/a toluenedisproportionationunitwillbesetupbyearly2009.

    Afterthecompletionofprojectconstructionthecatalytic crackingcapacityofthecompanywillreach1.9Mt/a.This companyalsoplansonthebasisoftheexisting140kt/a pureadipicacidunittoconstructagrassroots160kt/apure adipicacidunit,a110kt/anitricacidunitandtheutilitiesto achieveatotalpureadipicacidcapacityof300kt/a.Inthe futurethiscompanywillfurtherexpandthearomaticspro

    ductionscale,includingtheconstructionofa1.4Mt/acata

    lyticreformingunitandtheassociatedfacilities,andan800 kt/aparaxyleneunit.Bythattimethetotalproductionca

    pacityofparaxylene,benzene,andtheirderivativeswill eventuallyreachover2.0Mt/aandtheLiaoyangPetro

    chemicalCompanywillbecomeoneofthemajoraromatics productionbasesinChina.

    Thepmject"Simulationandoptimizationofprocessscheme forhydrotreatingcrudeterephthalicacid(eTA)"jointly performedbyEastChinaUniversityofScienceandTech

    nologyandtheSINOPECYangziPetrochemicalCompany, Ltd.haspassedtheappraisalorganizedbytheSINOPEC Corp.Accordingtoexperts,thisprojectnotonlyhaspro

    motedthetechnicalprogressinthePTAindustry,butcan alsoprovidetechnicalsupporttothekey1.0_-Mt/a..class PTAunitstobeconstructedinthe"EleventhFiveYearPlan''

    ItislearnedthatthePTAproductionprocesscomprises twosections,namelythexyleneoxidationsectionandthe eTAhydrotreatingsection.Thehydrotreatingprocessis

crucialforthemanufactureofPTAandcandirectlyinflu

    encesuchindicatorsasthePTAquality,theconsumption ofPd/Ccatalystandtheenergyconsumption.

    Inordertosaveenergyandreducematerialconsumptionand increasethethroughput,thesaidprojecthasadoptedthe processschemesimulationandoptimizedoperationtech

    niquestograpplewiththebottlenecksofthe720kt/am productionunitandtomaximizetheeconomicbenefitsof hydrotreatingreactionsintheexistingproductionfacilities. Theresearchworkersforthefirsttimebasedonthesmal1 scalelaboratorystudyonreactionkineticshavesetupa mode1onthemechanisminvolvedinthecommercialscale CTAhydrotreatingreactionprocessinlinewiththeprinciples ofdataconsistencyandtheoptimizedcorrectiontechniques, whichhaveledtooptimizationofkeyprocessoperatingpa

    rametersincludingtheconcentrationofeTAcomposition, thereactiontemperature,andthehydrogenflowratewhich canincreasetheproductOHtput,reducematerialconsump

    tionandincreaseadirectannaalincomeamountingtoaround 2millionRMB.
