    Purpose This unit standard is for people working in the steel

    manufacturing sector.

    People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify bulk

    steel product packaging requirements; prepare bulk steel

    product for packaging; and package bulk steel products.

Explanatory notes

1 Definition

     Company documentation refers to the documented procedures, manufacturer’s

    manuals and selected reference texts for the equipment and process.

2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to Health and

    Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991.

    3 This unit standard must be assessed in a workplace environment.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Identify bulk steel product packaging requirements.

Evidence requirements

    1.1 Production schedules are interpreted to ensure packaging specifications are

    identified in accordance with company and/or customer specifications.

    1.2 Packaging activities are sequenced to ensure production and delivery

    schedules are achieved.

Outcome 2

Prepare bulk steel product for packaging.

Evidence requirements

    2.1 Packaging stock levels are maintained in accordance with company

    documentation.

    Range stock levels include but are not limited to labels, clips, banding

    materials, adhesive materials.

    2.2 Protective claddings are manufactured in accordance with company

    documentation.

    2.3 Selection of ergonomic practices reduces the risk of injury in accordance with

    legislative requirements.

    2.4 Measures are taken to prevent product damage in accordance with company

    documentation.

    Range measures include but are not limited to while operating or

    directing the operation of lifting equipment.

Outcome 3

Package bulk steel products.

Evidence requirements

    3.1 Packages contain the specified number and type of products.

    3.2 External labelling and marking identify product specification and customer in

    accordance with company documentation.

    3.3 Finished package matches customer protection and presentation requirements

    in accordance with company documentation.

    3.4 Recording of data ensures audit trail and customer billing are in accordance

    with company documentation.

    Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

    Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

    Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
