The Olive Oil sector launches a Promotional
Campaign in Mexico for 2010
Professionals of the sector, importers and journalists will be invited to a breakfast pairing where the main lines of the 2010 Promotional Plan designed for the Mexican market will be presented.
thMexico City, 20 May 2010. Around 80% of Mexico’s olive oil importations come from
Spain. This is confirmed by the data of the Directorate General of Customs presented by Mr. Rafael Pico Lapuente, director of ASOLIVA (Spanish Olive Oil Exporters Association) and member of the Board of Interprofesional, who presented in Mexico City the 2010 Spanish Olive Oil Promotional Campaign. Promotion at points of sale and sport centres, advertising in buses and on the internet, as well as the organization of a tasting-seminar at a gastronomic school constitute, together with the creation of the website www.aceitedeolivadeespana.com.mx, the main actions of the Campaign, which will be developed from May to December 2010.
The Commercial Counselor of the Spanish Embassy, Ms. Matilde Climent Guimerá, stated in her intervention that the promotional activities of this kind of products, in addition to its introduction and establishment in the Mexican market, generates profits in both economies and increases the knowledge of Spanish gastronomy.
The Minister-Counselor, Mr. Pedro Martínez-Avial; the Economic and Commercial Counselor, Mr. Félix Martínez-Burgos; and Mr. Jeromín Huerta Heredia, director of the business unit of the Trade Promotion agency of Andalusia in Mexico, were also present at the event.
After the presentation of the Campaign, a breakfast pairing was directed by the Spanish tasting master Alfonso Fernández, who showed those present the best way of combining the different varieties of olive oil with different types of food to foster its taste.
Interprofesional del Aceite de Oliva, the ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade). ASOLIVA, EXTENDA and the IPEX (Foreign trade Promotion Institute of Castilla-La Mancha) have launched the Olive Oil Promotional Campaign in Mexico, which is part of the 2010 Foreign Promotional Campaign, and will imply an investment of 1,665,000 euros in
promotional actions for ten markets (Australia, Brazil, China, U.S.A., India, Mexico, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia and Ukraine). Indeed, in 2010, Mexico will receive an investment of over ?100,000, which will be used mainly to generalize the use of olive oil and consolidate the image of Spain as the origin of olive oil and as a quality emblem.
Foreign Promotion 2010
In 2009, Spanish bottled olive oil exports increased by 10% compared to 2008, and outside the EU they increased even further, around 16%. In order to continue with this upward tendency, the increase of exports and consumption is the objective of the campaign launched today.
