Explanatory notes

    INCOTERMS are standard trade definitions used in international sales contracts. Refer INCOTERMS 2010, International Chamber of Commerce publication 715 available on http://www.iccwbo.org/incoterms/.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

    Demonstrate knowledge of INCOTERMS used in international freight forwarding.

Evidence requirements

    1.1 Explain INCOTERMS relating to international sales contracts.

    1.2 Describe the benefits and limitations of INCOTERMS in relation to the sellers

    and buyers rights and obligations.

    Range evidence of three benefits and three limitations is required.

    1.3 Describe the rights and obligations of the seller and buyer consistent with

    INCOTERMS.

    Range INCOTERMS includes Ex Works (EXW), Free Carrier (FCA),

    Free Along Side Ship (FAS), Free on Board (FOB), Cost and

    Freight (CFR), Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF), Carriage Paid to

    (CPT), Carriage and Insurance Paid to (CIP), Delivered At Place

    (DAP), Delivered At Terminal (DAT), Delivery Duty Paid (DDP).

1.4 Identify the documentation requirements of INCOTERMS.

1.5 Identify the costs associated with INCOTERMS.

    Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

    Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

    Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMRs). The CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
