    How Your Chapter Can Support Our National Philanthropy

    Speech and Hearing

    1. The Starkey Hearing Foundation

    ; Build-A-Bear Project

    Goal: Help us provide Bears with hearing aids attachments for children who will be receiving a

    hearing aid at an upcoming Starkey Hearing Foundation Hearing Mission.

    Why: So children who are receiving hearing aids can have a ‘furry friend just like them’!

    How: Purchase a Bear and hearing aid accessory from Build-A-Bear. Bears can be made in the

    store or purchased on-line at www.buildabear.com. Hearing aid accessories can only be purchased

    online.

    Cost: Hearing Aid: $2; Bear: $10-$25

    Mail Completed Bears w/ the Hearing Aid to:

    ; Donate money for The Starkey Hearing Foundation through the Delta Zeta Foundation.

    $100 Cost to provide one hearing aid to a child

    $200 Cost to provide hearing aids for both ears for a child

     $1,000 Cost to provide ten (10) hearing aids for children.

    2. House Ear Institute

    ; Donate money for House Ear Institute through the Delta Zeta Foundation.

    3. Gallaudet University

    ; Donate money for Gallaudet University Fine Arts/Dance Studio through the Delta Zeta Foundation.

    The Painted Turtle camp

    ; Decorate CD Cases for the children, families, and volunteers through The Painted Turtle Craft

    Program. Order forms can be found on the national website and DZLink. This is a fun event to do at

    recruitment events, parent’s weekends, or sisterhood activities.

    ; Donate items from their Wish List which is located on their website www.thepaintedturtle.org.

    ; Be a volunteer at the camp during fall or spring weekend sessions or for a full week during the summer!

    A volunteer application can be found on The Painted Turtle’s website. Consider hosting a fundraiser to

    pay for chapter members flights to the camp.

    $250 Cost for a Turtle Camper for one day at camp

    $500 Cost for a session’s Stage Night performing arts celebration

    $1,500 Cost for one Turtle Camper

    $15,000 Cost for cabin of ten Turtle Campers

; Decorate Plastic Picture Frames

    Description: Purchase clear plastic picture frames or plain magnetic picture frame borders. Decorate the border of the frames with paint pen and/or stickers. Decorate with ‘camp/child’ theme. Be sure all frames are COMPLETELY dry before packaging. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp. ; Make Scarves for Cooler Evenings at Camp

    Description: Cut pieces of fleece into scarf length and tie knots at the end. Use colorful material. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp.

    ; Decorate Name Badges with Beads

    Description: Purchase hanging name badges. Decorate the straps with beads and make a border around the name badge holder. Be sure to leave room for the campers to decorate the actual name badge with their name. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp. Be sure to tie completed badges up in a bundle, so that they do not get tangled during packaging.

; Make Water Bottle Straps

    Description: Click here for directions. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp.

; Decorate White Tennis Shoes for Campers

    Description: Purchase plain white tennis shoes (children sizes 3-13; youth sizes 1-7; women’s sizes 3-11;

    men’s sizes 3-15) and decorate the shoes with acrylic paint in a variety of colors, appropriate for both boys and girls. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp.

; Make Turtle Pillows for the campers

    Description: Click here for directions. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp. NOTE: These are large and cumbersome to make and are not ideal for large recruitment projects.

; Make a Lap Quilt for the Campers

    Description: Click here for directions. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp.

    NOTE: Idea for incorporating it into a recruitment event is to have potential members cut out the quilt patches and/or decorate quilt patches and then have an alumna quilt the patches to make the quilt.

     ;Painted Turtle Fanny Packs

    Description: Decorate fanny packs for children at camp. Mail completed items directly to The Painted Turtle camp.

    Be sure to include a note with your University name in all shipments to the Painted Turtle so they can acknowledge your donation! All items except for the CD cases should be mailed directly to The Painted Turtle, Attn: Rosalyn Sayer, 1300 4th Street, Suite 300, Santa Monica, CA 90401.

    Remember All donations to our national philanthropic partnerships should be mailed to the Delta Zeta
