Spreads out Love throughout the Community
(16 September 2006 ) The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) organised the “Towngas Mooncake for the Community – Cooking for Fun”
Programme this afternoon to celebrate the coming of Mid-Autumn Festival. Over 20 children from Towngas “Cooking for Fun – Children English Learning
Workshop” gathered at the Towngas Cooking Centre to share the fun of making heart-shaped mooncake to spread out warmth throughout the community.
“Towngas Mooncake for the Community Programme” has been organised for six
consecutive years. This year, over 200 Legislative Council and District Council members have joined the Progamme by organising festive events and distributing 68,000 mooncakes to the elderly people during the coming Mid-Autumn Festival.
“We always emphasize corporate social responsibility and also encourage our colleagues to contribute to our community. We make and distribute mooncakes to needy people to bring warmth at the eve of Festival every year. Today, our volunteer service team members have not only introduced an innovative English learning workshop “Cooking for Fun”, but also acted as cooking tutors to teach our next generation to cook our traditional food.” said James Kwan Yuk-choi,
Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of Towngas.
In addition to the District Social Welfare Officer (Southern) of Social Welfare Department Fung Man-lok, Towngas has also invited local celebrities Louisa So Yuk-wa and Steven Ma Jun-wai to learn essential English as well as making Towngas heart-shaped mooncakes with children under the guidance of Annie Wong Yuen-ying, the tutor from Towngas Cooking Centre. After the event Towngas distributed mooncakes by Lin Heung Bakery to every participating child to share the festival joy with their families.
“Coooking for Fun” is a brand new English learning scheme by way of fun
cooking initiated by Towngas volunteer service team for 1,200 needy children from 12 districts under Social Welfare Department.
