In the eyes of my pride and Prejudice
This semester, I read through “Pride and Prejudice” which written by a well-known English writer----Jane Austen.
At first, when I began to read the book, just because teacher said it is a wonderful book to improve my reading skills, however , reading a few
chapters I still have no interest. Later I see here is the scenario for the future in ambush pen. In a blink of an eye, thirty chapters have passed, the character is very obviously is portrayed by the author. I also was deeply attracted by the nevol.
I have two views about this nevol, social marriage problem and love. The first sentence in this book is impressive for most people. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”. The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not love but possession.
Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel
superior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to
follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century.
Today ,in China we are also faced the same problems. In modern
society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still deeply
rooted in some people’s mind. A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages. Education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage. Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: can money
Now, I discuss the second problem----love.
Darcy who was a single man of a large fortune fell in love with Elizabeth after only a transitory intercourse. And later on, Darcy proposed to her with regardlessness to the gap of the wealth and class. But Elizabeth unmercifully refused him by misunderstanding his
represented extreme pride which was just a reflection of the high-class. After a long-term observation of his behaviors, Elizabeth was finally loyal to her own heart. But in our life, our heart always give in so many things like : pride and prejudice.
This book, to some degree, expresses the author’s marriage view: It is
wrong to get married for the property, money and position as well; and also it is foolish if you do not consider the above-mentioned factures. So she objected to getting married for money as well as regarding it as something unimportant. She stressed the importance of the ideal marriage and regarded the true love as its foundation . Whether the
marriage is a happiness depended on whether they truly love and learn each other. Falling in love at first sight is indeed more romantic than the long-term love. But we cannot deny the fact the long-term coexistence will surely bring both of you to a better understanding and a deeper affection.
In the end ,Pride and prejudice were two weaknesses in our humanity which was easily distorted. And in the way of pursuing love, we should not be controlled by these shortages, but to keep our own faiths and feelings
