    2011-2012 BIAS FREE Fall/Winter Internship Program

     Internship Description

    Title: Junior Research Officer

    Number of Positions: 2

    Duration: 3 to 6 months, beginning September 12, 2011

    Terms of Reference:

    1. Participate in research projects for BIAS FREE Co-op in one or more of the following

    areas:

    ; In support of BIAS FREE Co-op’s international training and project activities on

    equity and human rights, conduct literature searches and prepare analytical

    reports on topics of relevance, as determined by supervisor;

    ; In support of BIAS FREE Co-op’s publication and project activities, conduct

    research to identify Journals and other publications accepting submissions and

    details related to requirements for submission of manuscripts and conduct research

    on calls for proposals for project work in Canada and around the world; 2. Serve as general project support, as needed, in BIAS FREE Co-op’s on-going work

    on:

    ; Developing project proposals and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs); ; Soliciting and carrying out new projects and/or training workshops; ; Carrying out analytical work of the BIAS FREE Co-op programme of activities and

    related publication activities.

    Supervision & Mentoring Plan: Interns will be assigned their particular research

    activities at the beginning of their work term. Weekly meetings will be conducted with their Supervisor to ensure that work is on track. Interns will be able to discuss issues and any challenges with their supervisor on an as-needs basis, either in person or by email, Skype or phone. Mentoring will be on-going in support of the interns’ development as

    employees, researchers, writers and critical thinkers. Interns will be expected to prepare

    weekly work reports and a final project report. As appropriate, opportunities will be supported for interns to participate in the preparation of an article that could be submitted to an Academic Journal for publication. Full credit for authorship of materials produced by interns will be given.

    Remuneration: This is a non-remunerated internship offering interns flexible working hours and an opportunity to work from home. Successful candidates are given an opportunity to participate in an Introductory BIAS FREE Workshop as part of their initial
