Thursday 1 March

    LAUNCH of WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH, INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S WEEK and the

    WISEWORDS programme

    Comfort and Jammie Sammy; music and dance by Nari Diganta, Sister Elements and

    SERTUC Women’s Rights Committee, Amnesty International and Climate Week. All

    welcome.

    THE SOCIAL WARRIORS-stories inspiring Bengali women

    Celebration of the life and achievements of two remarkable Bangladeshi women, poet Begum Sufia Kamal and educationalist Jahanara Imam who are and have been fighting for equality for women in Bangladesh. Inspiring songs and dances performed by artists from Nari Diganta and the Soytten Sen School of Performing Arts.

    Event to mobilize local women who have time to share in befriending older citizens. Featuring dancing and singing performances, Kung Fu demonstrations, Chinese calligraphy and speakers.

TOWER HAMLETS INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN’S AWARDS

    Awards Event to recognise women who have inspired others through their achievements. Opportunity for people between the ages of 18 to 65 who use the Day Centre services or work

    Event in partnership with University of East London to inspire local women to be more active in the community. Photographer Sarah Ainslie will be collecting and collating inspirational wardrobe stories, together with photographs of women in their wardrobes and these will be exhibited on the day together with a photo-booth for women to come and take pictures posing as their most inspirational female role model.

    Two full day writing workshops aimed at learners of English and women who would like help with literacy. With tips on how to make your writing interesting and organizing your ideas, word-processing, wordpress demonstration and how to upload stories on to a mini website.

    INTERNATIONAL QUILTMAKING DAY

    Inspiring local women to help create a series of International Friendship Quilts. A quilting workshop will take place in the morning and afternoon on small and large frames for sewers and beginners. Lunch will be provided and guest speakers will give short presentations.

    BIG I.T.UP Computer Literacy Event

    Event to inspire women to become more IT literate.

    Opened by Nadira Hussain Project Manager for Future I.T.Sourcing LBTH, who is also the first Asian woman to be elected as Vice-President of SOCITM (Society of I.T Managers). There will be a series of bite-sized workshops with lots of support and refreshments and lunch will be served.
