    OUR MISSION

    The St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation is a non-profit, non-political organization devoted to improving the quality of life in St. Louis and emphasizing programs that uplift the tradition and conditions of African-Americans. The SLGCSF’s mission is to provide financial

    support to our community by way of scholarships and sports programs. To date, SLGCSF has awarded $2.8M in scholarships to 108 students.

    The Earl Wilson, Jr. General Scholarship Program focuses on the average high school student who may not have the opportunity to receive a college scholarship. It provides high school students who are juniors the opportunity to pursue their college education with a 4-year renewable scholarship covering tuition and room/board will be awarded to a deserving young male or female. This scholarship award is renewable annually, assuming the recipient maintains a 2.5GPA or above and eligibility requirements.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    The Earl Wilson, Jr. General Scholarship Program is open to both male and female students who have achieved junior status at the time of application and will be eligible for senior status August/September 2011 from any school district within the greater St. Louis metropolitan area, which includes East St. Louis. All applicants must meet the following criteria:

     Achieved junior class status (i.e. rising seniors)

     In good class standing

     Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better

     Have taken the SAT or ACT

     Accumulated 15 hours of documented community service

     Scheduled to attend an accredited, Historically Black College or University by

    Fall 2012

    APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

    All applicants are required to complete this application in its entirety and submit by the deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. All responses to questions

    on this application must be typed or neatly printed. A complete application includes the

    following:

    ; Completed application (attached)

    ; Unofficial high school transcript or copy of most recent report card indicating

    cumulative GPA as of January 10, 2011. (Note: An Official transcript indicating

    GPA at the end of the spring 2011 semester must be received at the Gateway

    Classic office no later than June 18, 2011.

    ; Three (3) letters of recommendation from school officials, community leaders,

    spiritual leaders, etc. (non-family members)

    ; Copy of parent(s) or guardian(s) 2010 Federal Income Tax Return as verification

    document.

    ; Submit a typed resume’ with cover letter including extracurricular activities,

    organizational involvement and community service, making sure to indicate any

    leadership positions. Cover letter should explain why you should be awarded this

    scholarship

    ; Submit a typed essay with your application on the question shown below. Essay

    should be 2-4 pages and double-spaced. Include your name on each page of

    your essay.

    ; Both applicant and parent(s) or guardian(s) MUST attend all of the following:

     Committee interview session by appointment

     Orientation meeting (actual date and time TBD upon acceptance)

     Tribute event announcing award recipient TBA

    DEADLINE

     Deadline for submitting completed application is Thursday, March 31, 2011.

     All Applications must be postmarked no later than Thursday, March 31, 2011.

Applicants will be notified via telephone and/or by mail no later than April 8, 2011,

    regarding panel interview appointment.

     Panel Interviews conducted between April 11 April 29, 2011

     Applicants will be notified regarding award by May 13, 2011

    SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

     Scholarship award recipient must be available to attend various St. Louis Gateway

    Classic Events throughout the 2011-2012 school year.

     Scholarship award recipient MUST attend one of the historically black colleges/university

    (HBCU) participating in the Gateway Football Classic in 2011, which will be Clark-Atlanta

    University or University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

     Scholarship award recipient will receive a 4 year renewable scholarship covering tuition

    and room/board only

     No books, fees or other incidental charges will be included as part of this scholarship. Scholarship award recipient must maintain a 2.5 GPA or above each semester. Scholarship award recipient must be full-time students carrying a minimum of 15 credit

    class hours and register for college classes beginning in the Fall 2012 semester. Scholarship award recipient and parents will be required to sign a contract. Scholarship award recipient and parents will be required to sell a minimum 100 tickets

    for the Annual Gateway Football Classic for as long as he/she is under scholarship

    through the St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation.
