    special notes: 1 This unit standard is based on the major learning

    outcomes identified by the History Forms 5 to 7

    Syllabus for Schools (Ministry of Education.

    Wellington: Learning Media, 1990).

     2 The student defines the topic of the investigation and

    establishes the plan in consultation with the provider.

    The topic should be appropriate to the level of the unit

    standard.

     3 A plan is to contain possible questions and/or ideas to

    be investigated, potential sources of historical

    information, the dates associated with the components

    of the task being undertaken and completed, and what

    actions are required to complete the investigation.

     4 Source refers to where the historical information is

    found, eg book, CD Rom, person. Sources may be

    primary and/or secondary.

     5 Historical information may be written, visual, oral.

     6 System refers to a logical, ordered arrangement of the

    gathered historical information.

     7 Scope of the topic refers to the time period, relevant

    places, personalities, events, and issues.

performance criteria

    2.1 Historical information is researched from a variety of sources in accordance

    with the topic of the investigation.

    Range: evidence of five different sources of historical information is

    required.

    2.2 The information researched is in accordance with the scope of the topic.

    2.3 The information is organised in accordance with a system.

    2.4 The information is identified in a manner that shows the details of the sources.
