You Are Invited…….

Who Can Apply

Groups or individuals from, or with strong links to, the Yorkshire Region are invited to submit an application to present a Fringe Event at the Ilkley Literature Festival 2014. Writers, poets and live literature performers of all kinds can submit suggestions for a performance or presentation at the 2014 llkley Literature Festival Fringe which runs from 3 19 October 2014.

Submissions Open 1 March 2014

    Closing Date 12 May 2014

Successful Applicants notified by 30 June 2014

What Kind of Event

Our selection aims to encompass a range of art forms and events to reflect the diversity of the region. Events in the last few years have included readings, dramatised readings, events with music and/or film, short stories, launches of new collections, new plays, new stand up comedy routines, discussions and completely off the wall events. Most Fringe

events are hosted in the Ilkley Playhouse, however proposals for Fringe events that take place elsewhere, for example on Ilkley Moor, the bandstand, in local pubs are also welcome.

We work with each chosen group or individual to identity a suitable venue, date and time, so that it compliments other events in the programme. The majority of Fringe events last 60 minutes but you are welcome to propose shorter events.

What We Provide

All selected groups must attend a mandatory Fringe Briefing in September 2014.

For each event on the Fringe, The Festival provides the following:

; A suitable venue, although your own venue (in Ilkley) if relevant, can be

    considered.

; Most Fringe events take place in Ilkley Playhouse, which has a black box style

studio space downstairs and an upstairs proscenium arch theatre, both seating

    150. Both venues are fitted with a digital projector and screen.

; Technical support where appropriate and possible see below

; Publicity, both in our festival brochure and in our press releases

; Listing in the Fringe Flyer. Flyers are given to each group to distribute

; A steward where steward support is needed (eg. in a Festival venue or to guide

    people to an outdoor venue)

Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe 2014

You Are Invited…….

The Festival makes every effort to attract an audience for the Fringe, but just like the

Edinburgh Festival, the size of your audience will largely depend on your efforts. Fringe event organisers are strongly advised to alert friends, family and supporters and do all they can to attract an audience. Audiences range from 3 people to 150….

Financial Arrangements

; Fringe performers are not offered any payment or expenses and admission to Fringe

events for the audience is free.

; Audience members are not required to book in advance, and normally just turn up on

    the night.

Technical Support.

; Technical support must be agreed in advance and will be limited to basic sound

requirements and the use of existing lighting, and a digital projector/screen if needed

and available in the venue. Get in and get out time is minimal - 15-30 mins.

; You will be required to return a simple Technical Support Request Form.

; Many fringe events take place at Ilkley Playhouse between or after other events. As

a result, Fringe events may sometimes be unexpectedly delayed if a main

    programme event over runs.
