    HEY EVERYONE WE’RE THE CAST FROM THE NEW SHOW LEVEL UP. AND I'VE GOT AN AWESOME POP QUIZ FOR YOU COMING UP. CHANNEL ONE NEWS STARTS RIGHT NOW

    {SCOTT}

    THANKS GUYS FOR STARTING OFF THE SHOW! I'M SCOTT EVANS, LET'S CHECK IN WITH SHARON SONG FOR A LOOK AT TODAYS BIGGEST STORIES. WHAT'S UP SHARON?

    {SHARON}

WHAT'S UP SCOTT.

    THE BIG QUESTION IN THE RACE TO THE WHITE HOUSE - WHO WILL BE THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE TO FACE-OFF AGAINST PRESIDENT OBAMA IN NOVEMBER? IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THAT ANSWER IS GETTING ANY CLEARER.

    SOUTH CAROLINA RESIDENTS VOTED ON SATURDAY IN THAT STATES PRIMARY ELECTION - AND THE WINNER FOR REPUBLICANS WAS A BIT OF SURPRISE.

    NEWT GINGRICH BEAT MITT ROMNEY BY DOUBLE DIGITS. RICK SANTORUM AND RON PAUL TRAILED BEHIND IN THIRD AND FOURTH.

    "We proved here in South Carolina that people powered with the right ideas-

    beats big money, and with your help, we're going to prove it again in Florida."

    BUT THAT ALSO MEANS THERE IS REALLY NO CLEAR FRONTRUNNER RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THE FIRST THREE STATES TO VOTE DURING PRIMARY SEASON ALL VOTED FOR DIFFERENT CANDIDATES.

    AFTER THE FINAL COUNT IN IOWA LAST WEEK, RICK SANTORUM WAS OFFICIALLY DECLARED THE WINNER. MITT ROMNEY FINISHED ON TOP IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, AND NOW NEWT GINGRICH WON THE PRIMARY IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

    AND DON'T DISCOUNT THE FOURTH PERSON IN THE RACE - RON PAUL - WHO CAME IN SECOND IN THE NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY AND HAS A BIG FOLLOWING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE.

    NEXT STOP IS THE FLORIDA PRIMARY NEXT WEEK. AND THE FOUR CANDIDATES WILL FACE OFF IN ANOTHER DEBATE TONIGHT.

IN OTHER POLITICAL NEWS -

    REPRESENTATIVE GABRIELLE GIFFORDS ANNOUNCED SHE WILL BE STEPPING DOWN FROM HER SEAT IN CONGRESS.

    IF YOU REMEMBER - GIFFORDS, WHO REPRESENTS ARIZONA, WAS SHOT A YEAR AGO THIS MONTH WHEN A GUNMAN OPENED FIRE WHILE GIFFORDS WAS GIVING A SPEECH TO HER CONSTITUENTS. THE GUNMAN ALSO KILLED 6 OTHERS.

    ALTHOUGH SHE'S COME A LONG WAY, GIFFORDS SAYS SHE STILL HAS MORE WORK TO DO ON HER RECOVERY, AND THAT'S WHY SHE IS RESIGNING.

    NEXT UP, HIS NAME MADE HISTORY IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL AND HIS NAME IS ALSO TIED TO A CONTROVERSIAL SCANDAL THAT CAUGHT THE COUNTRY'S ATTENTION LAST FALL.

    AND NOW - NEWS THAT THE FORMER PENN STATE HEAD COACH JOE PATERNO DIED YESTERDAY MORNING.

    STUDENTS AND FOOTBALL FANS ARE GATHERED TO MOURN THE LOSS OF A LEGENDARY COACH.

    PATERNO, ALSO KNOWN AS "JOE PA" ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD WAS A LIVING LEGEND AROUND CAMPUS.

    HE RACKED UP MORE WINS THAN ANY OTHER COACH IN MAJOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY: 409 WINS AND TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

    THE 85 YEAR OLD PATERNO WAS FIRED AFTER A SCANDEL INVOLVING HIS ASSITANT COACH JERRY SANDUSKYAND ALLEGATIONS THAT HE TRIED TO COVER-UP THE ALLEGED ABUSE.

    NINE DAYS LATER HIS FAMILY ANNOUNCED THE COACH HAD A TREATABLE FORM OF LUNG CANCER. BUT HE WAS LATER HOSPITALIZED AND DID NOT RECOVER.

    PATERNO'S DEATH MAY HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE SANDUSKY CASE BECAUSE HE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED ON TO TESTIFY.

    AND LAST UP, ITS' THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN. TO GET PSYCHED FOR THE SUPERBOWL.

    THIS YEAR'S SUPERBOWL MATCH-UP WILL BE

    THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VERSUS THE NEW YORK GIANTS

    YESTERDAY - THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS BEAT THE BALTIMORE RAVENS IN THE AFC CHAMPIONSHIPS. THIS WILL BE TOM BRADY'S FIFTH START IN THE SUPER BOWL.

    THE PATRIOTS' LAST NFL TITLE CAME IN JANUARY 2005.

    AS FOR THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIPS, THE NEW YORK GIANTS BEAT THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS. THE GIANTS HAVE SEVEN NFL TITLES, THEIR LAST WIN WAS IN 2007.

    THE TWO WINNING TEAMS ARE NOW GEARING UP TO FACE OFF IN SUPERBOWL 46. THE BIG DAY IS ON FEBRUARY 5TH IN INDIANAPOLIS. ALRIGHT SCOTT, BACK TO YOU.

    ALRIGHT COMING UP. WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT HOW HAITI IS STILL REBUILDING AFTER THE DEVASTATING EARTH QUAKE TWO YEARS AGO.

    {HEAR IT NOW}

"The music you are hearing on today's show is by Mayday Parade head to

    ChannelOne.com for artist info, photos, and a chance to win some great new

    music!"

{SCOTT}

    YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER THAT HUGE EARTHQUAKE THAT HIT THE SMALL COUNTRY OF HAITI BACK IN 2010. YOU MAY HAVE EVEN MADE A DONATION. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DID. THEY OPENED THEIR HEARTS AND THEIR WALLETS -- DONATING *BILLIONS* OF DOLLARS TO THE POOR COUNTRY.

    SO WHY-- TWO YEARS LATER, ARE THE PEOPLE OF HAITI STILL STRUGGLING TO REBUILD? SHELBY HOLLIDAY HAS THE STORY.

    {SHELBY}

    TWO YEARS AFTER A 7.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE DEVASTATED HAITI, 4 TO 6 THOUSAND PEOPLE MARCHED IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE TRAGEDY.

    THEY ALSO MARCHED TO PROTEST THE COUNTRY'S SLOW RECOVERY FROM THE DISASTER THAT KILLED ABOUT 300,000 PEOPLE AND LEFT 1.5 MILLION HOMELESS.

    GILNA PIERRE KNOWS THE FRUSTRATIONS OF THAT SLOW RECOVERY FIRST HAND. JUST OUTSIDE OF HAITI'S CAPITAL PORT AU PRINCE, SHE IS COOKING THE ONLY MEAL OF THE DAY FOR HER FAMILY AND NEIGHBORS.

    GILNA IS AMONG THE 500-THOUSAND HAITIANS WHO ARE STILL WITHOUT A PERMANENT HOME.

    THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING, SHE SAYS ABOUT HAITI'S

    GOVERNMENT.LIKE MANY OF HER FELLOW HAITIANS, GINA IS FRUSTRATED WITH THE WAY THE COUNTRY HAS HANDLED DONATIONS.

    SINCE THE EARTHQUAKE, THREE BILLION DOLLARS HAS BEEN DONATED TO HAITI TO REBUILD, BUT ACCORDING TO THE UNITED NATIONS, THE HAITIAN GOVERNMENT GOT ONLY 18 PERCENT OF THAT MONEY. MUCH OF THE REST WENT TO CHARITIES OPERATING INDEPENDENTLY IN THE COUNTRY.

    SOME OF THOSE CHARITIES HAVE HELPED BUILD HOSPITALS AND PROVIDE FOOD- FOR EXAMPLE, "PARTNERS IN HEALTH," EMPLOYS

    HAITIANS TO PRODUCE "NOURIMANBA," A PEANUT-BUTTER LIKE FOOD THAT CAN CURE MALNUTRITION IN A MATTER OF WEEKS.

    “It’s ready to eat. You literally open up the jar, and you take a scoop. “

    BY TEACHING HAITIANS TO MAKE NOURIMANBA, THE ORGANIZATION IS HELPING FIGHT MALNUTRITION *AND* UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE COUNTRY.

    “What we are looking at will provide jobs, training and also a life-saving product. “

    BUT NOT ALL OF THE 20-THOUSAND CHARITIES OPERATING IN HAITI HAVE HAD SUCH POSITIVE RESULTS.

    “The international community showed an incredible amount of generosity towards

    Haiti. Unfortunately, the systems weren't in place to make sure that the funding is

    channeled in an effective way. “

    PRIME MINISTER GARRY CONILLE SAYS THAT WHILE SOME CHARITIES HAVE HELPED IN THE SHORT TERM, THEY HAVE NOT WORKED WITH THE GOVERNMENT FOR LONG TERM SOLUTIONS. FOR EXAMPLE, ONE CHARITY BUILT A SCHOOL BUT THERE WERE NO TEACHERS TO FILL IT.

    CONILLE HAS ONLY BEEN IN OFFICE FOR THREE MONTHS, BUT HE IS CONSIDERING A RADICAL APPROACH-- HE WANTS TO MAKE SOME CHARITIES LEAVE.

    I think we should be able to say very strongly that you're gonna play by certain

    rules or not play at all.

    TOUGH WORDS COMING FROM A GOVERNMENT THAT HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR ITS CORRUPTION IN THE PAST. BUT CONILLE SAYS IF NOTHING CHANGES, NEITHER WILL HAITI'S DESPERATE SITUATION.

    BUT DESPITE THE UPHILL CLIMB, MANY ARE HOPEFUL THAT THINGS WILL CHANGE.

    The country feeds on hope. And this is extraordinary. They really believe that

    tomorrow will be better.

    SHELBY HOLLIDAY, CHANNEL ONE NEWS.

    {SCOTT}

    REBUILDING A NATION AFTER SUCH A DISASTER IS NEVER EASY. THANKS SHELBY.

    COMING UP I SEE SOME INTERESTING CHARACTERS AND A POP QUIZ IN YOUR FUTURE. STICK AROUND.

    HEY GUYS TODAY WE'VE GOT THE CAST OF LEVEL UP, WHO WANTS TO TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF ONE THE SMARTEST GUYS WHO EVER LIVED.

    [STORY SUBJECT TO CHANGE]

    {LEVEL UP CAST}

    IN OUR NEW SHOW LEVEL UP - WE ACCIDENTALLY OPEN A WORMHOLE OR PORTAL FROM THIS WORLD TO A VIDEO GAME.

    NOW SOME SCIENTISTS THINK WORMHOLES MIGHT BE REAL AND COULD EXIST ACCORDING TO THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY.

    YOUR QUESTION IS:

    WHO CAME UP WITH THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY:

    WAS IT

    A ISAAC NEWTON

    B CHARLES DARWIN

    C STEPHEN HAWKING

    D ALBERT EINSTEIN

    TAKE 10 SECONDS

    OK TIMES UP THE ANSWER IS D ALBERT EINSTEIN. NOW CHANNEL ONE HAS THE REST OF THE FACTS.

    THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY IN THE SIMPLEST TERMS SAYS THAT TIME AND SPACE ARE NOT ABSOLUTE - THEY ARE RELATIVE. MEANING THAT

    TIME AND SPACE CAN CHANGE DEPENDING ON YOUR FRAME OF REFERENCE.

    FOR EXAMPLE. YOU MIGHT BE STANDING STILL.RELATIVE TO THE EARTH. BUT IF YOU LOOK AT YOURSELF "RELATIVE" TO THE SOLAR SYSTEM, YOU'RE ACTUALLY MOVING BECAUSE THE EARTH IS MOVING.

    THAT'S A PRETTY SIMPLE EXPLANATION FOR WHAT IS REALLY A COMPLEX THEORY. AND THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY

    IS BEING USED TO EXPLAIN THINGS LIKE BLACK HOLES, WORMHOLES, AND YES EVEN THE POSSIBILITY OF TIME TRAVEL.

    {SCOTT}

    THANKS GUYS, YOU PROBABLY ACED THAT POP QUIZ! TO TEST YOUR SKILLS IN MORE POP QUIZZES - BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OUR POP QUIZ PAGE OVER ON CHANNEL ONE DOT COM.

    IT'S A GREAT START TO A MONDAY. WELL GUYS THAT DOES IT FOR US, I'M SCOTT EVANS, MAKE TODAY AWESOME! WE'LL SEE YOU TOMORROW.
