MAKING THE MOST

    OF THE FAIR

What’s at the fair for me?

The fair is an excellent way to meet employers, talk to them about their opportunities and make a good impression. Exhibitors will be advertising graduate jobs and work experience opportunities.

To stand out from the crowd you will need to be prepared. If you make a good impression, you may be encouraged to make an application or be invited for an interview. Some organisations visiting from China will be interviewing during their visit to the UK. Some may interview at the fair itself.

Talking to employers

You will only have a few minutes to make a good impression, think about what you want to ask in advance.

    ; Useful introductions

“I am a final year student studying Business. Could you tell me about your graduate training

    programme in Marketing?”

“I am a postgraduate looking to identify career opportunities in China. Could you tell me more

    about your organisation?”

“I see from the fair guide that your organisation specialises in government PR. I am very

interested in getting into this area. Do you recruit graduates into this function also?”

“Would you be able to tell me if your organisation would consider applications for internships in

addition to the graduate programmes that are advertised in the fair guide?”

    ; Useful preparation

Do your research. Find out about what the company does, what vacancies they have and what

you would like to know about them before you meet.

Check the exhibitor listings in this guide for more information or the fair‟s website.

Take along a copy of your CV to give to the employer. If you can focus the content on the needs

of that employer / job, it will help.

Be prepared to answer questions too. The exhibitors may be interested to hear more about:

    - Your degree, and any relevant knowledge or experience that you have to offer.

    - Your skills and examples of how you have developed them.

    - Why you are considering a career in this area / with this company.

    - What you know about their organisation / industry.
