What is VOCED?

The term VOCED is short for Vocational Education. The Perkins Grant’s full name used to be “The Perkins Vocational Education Grant” and the term has stuck with us, even though the Grant’s full-name is now, “The Perkins Career and Technical Education Grant.” The

name change was done at the federal level to disassociate the grant from the false, yet

    negative stereotyping of vocational education.

Select ONE student at time using the

check boxes and then click submit.

Selecting more than one student at a time

will result in an error message.

After selecting one student by clicking a check box and then clicking the submit button, you will be taken to another screen (shown in Figure 9) that allows you to provide details of the student’s behaviors. This checklist also allows you to enter a brief comment up to 72

    characters in length.

Why do I only see a partial list of my students on the screen shown in Figure 8?

The Perkins Grant is mandated by federal legislation to work only with Career and Technical Education (CTE) students those students who plan to enter the work force upon graduation. Therefore, the students shown will only be those who are CTE students.

To see a complete list of which programs are considered to be CTE go to the Perkins Grant web page at: http://www.ccac.edu/default.aspx?id=145957 or www.ccac.edu, keyword search

    “Perkins Grant”.

    What happens to my referrals?

Your referrals are transmitted over a secure connection to CCAC’s main database known as Colleague. This is the same system the college uses for student registration, transcripts and even accounting.

Referrals are retrieved from Colleague by the Perkins Grant’s staff of Career Support Specialist. We will then attempt to contact the students by phone, e-mail and post-card. If we can establish contact with the student we will work with them to resolve their classroom difficulties by connecting them to the college’s existing resources including those of the grant.

Will I be notified of the status of my referral?

You will receive feedback from Perkins staff about the status of your referral and the nature of the intervention conducted with the student. Sometimes it is impossible to contact a student e-mails go unanswered, telephones are disconnected, post-cards are ignored. Whether we are able to contact the student or not, we will tell you what steps we have taken and what progress has been made.

Please keep in mind that you can use this online system to refer students up until mid-term and you can change or add to your comments or refer additional students any time during the first half of the term.

If you have any problems using the system or questions or concerns about the Perkins Grant or the Online Early Intervention System, contact Norm Downey at (412) 237-8192 or at ndowney@ccac.edu.

Thank you for using the Perkins Grant’s Online Early Intervention System.
