Culture Grows Here Conference in City of Barrie SUBJECT:

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the County of Simcoe support the City of Barrie’s Culture Grows Here conference by

participating as the conference’s Title Sponsor as outlined in Item PM 10-074.

BACKGROUND:

Members of the City of Barrie’s Department of Culture are leading a new initiative to develop a

conference dedicated to cultivating culture in rural and urban areas. The conference is designed to

bring people together to highlight diverse cultural activities, and to profile some of the cultural leaders in Ontario and globally. Workshops from cultural experts include Eddie Friel, a cultural

architect responsible for the cultural transformation of Glasgow, Scotland, and Janis Barlow, project lead in the redevelopment of the Elgin and Wintergarden Theatres.

The City of Barrie has approached the County for support, and has requested that the County

contribute funds to be the conference’s Title Sponsor. As part of this sponsorship, the County will receive registration for six (6) participants, as well as logo recognition on the following; event

signage, conference program, and all promotional materials (website, posters, postcards and e-mail

campaigns). In addition, the title sponsorship includes a display table to promote Simcoe County

cultural amenities, and the opportunity to introduce the “Special Guest” performer at the

    conference.

The City of Barrie has invested an estimated ten to fifteen thousand dollars in this conference, and will continue to promote and market the conference throughout Ontario in the upcoming weeks. Staff believe that by providing title sponsorship, there will be mutual benefits for both sides, and

that this is a strong partnership opportunity for Barrie and Simcoe County. The cost of title

    sponsorship is $5,000.

FINANCIAL ANALYSIS:

The conference’s Title Sponsor and partnership contribution of $5,000 can be funded within the Public relations budget of the Warden and Council, CAO and Communications departments.
