Dear Colleague:

     ?We cordially invite you to an Advanced Placement Program German Language and ?Culture seminar for teachers hosted by the AP German Language and Culture

    Development Committee and sponsored by the College Board. The seminar will be held at

    Van Hise Hall at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. There is no attendance fee.

    Although this seminar is free, please be aware that each participant is responsible for

    his/her own incidental expenses, such as travel to the seminar site, parking fees, etc.

Date: Saturday, April 28, 2012

Session time:

     8:30 am -9:00 am Registration; Breakfast will be provided

     9:00 am 9:30 am Welcome session introduction of the Development Committee and an

    introduction to the new course and exam

    9:30 am 9:40 am Break

    9:40 am 10:40 am Breakout sessions (Round 1):*

    (1) Designing Instruction and Assessment: Interpersonal

    Communication Brandee Mau and Eva-Maria Russo

    (2) Designing Instruction and Assessment: Interpretive Communication

    Peg Grasso Meyers, John Sundquist and Johanna Watzinger-Tharp

    (3) Designing Instruction and Assessment: Presentational

    *Each session will focus on two themes: Science and Technology and

    Personal and Public Identities

    10:50-11:50 am Breakout sessions (Round 2) same topics as Round 1

    11:50- noon Break

    noon 12:30 pm Closing session presentation with Q&A opportunities

    Purpose: Those who will find the seminar particularly useful include:

    ; Current secondary school teachers who teach the AP German Language and

    Culture course

    ; Prospective secondary school teachers who would be interested in teaching the AP

    German Language and Culture course

    ; College and University German Language and Culture faculty who are interested in

    increased articulation between high school and higher education programs and

    want a better understanding of the AP program

    ; College and University German Language and Culture faculty who are interested in

    preparing students to teach German Language and Culture

    ; Graduate or undergraduate students interested in German Language and Culture

    pedagogy

    Topics and Materials: Please refer to the enclosed list of topics and presenters. College Board materials for the AP German Language and Culture course will be provided at no cost to seminar attendees.
