    Unit 1 Nice People, Nice Places

    Six Periods in all

    The First Period

    Teaching Aims:

    1. Master the names of countries and nationalities; 2. Master some sentence patterns, such as:

     Where are you from? Im from

    Where do you from? I come from

    How do you find it? Its

    3. Talk about people who are from which countries; 4. Ask and express ones own opinion about things.

    Teaching Important Points:

    Get the Ss know how to ask and express their opinions Teaching Difficult Points:

    Know about the difference between countries and nationalities

    Teaching Methods:

    Listening, speaking, reading, pair works Teaching Aids:

     Pictures, a map of China, a map of world, ppt, etc.

    Teaching Procedures:

    Step1. Safety Education

    Greetings;

    Count the students in class;

    Dont play with drawing tools in class.

    Step2. Lead In

     1. (Show some pictures of Zhongjiang) This is Zhongjiang , our hometown, is it beautiful? I am from Yongtai, Zhongjiang. Where are you from? (Get some students answer this question: Im from )

    2. Look at the picture on the first page of this unit, introduce the title, get the students guess what we will learn in this unit, then get them read the content.

    3. Discuss the following questions:

    Have you ever visited the place?

    What do you know about the place?

    In which country is the building?

    Turn to the next page to find some clues.

    Step3. Listen and Match

    Look at the pictures on P12, listen to the tape, when I play it for the first time, match the countries and the pictures, when I play it for the second time, read after it.

    Do you know any other interesting places in the world? Show some places of interest in different countries in the world, get the students guess them.

    Introduce the nationality of each country in the picture. (Match Part7 on P14)

    What other countries do you know? (Say them and find them in the map of the world. )

    Which country do you like to visit?

    Step4. Words and Sentences

    Read the words of Part3.

    Listen to the dialogue, and pay attention to the sentence patterns:

    Where are you from? Im from

    Where do you come from? I come from

    How do you find it?

     Its beautiful and the people are nice.

     There are many beautiful parks in the city.

     Listen to the tape again, choose the right answers to the questions, then finish Exercise1 on P18.

    Step5. Practice

    Make up a dialogue with the sentence patterns weve learnt

    today, get some pairs act out.

    Step6. Summarize and Homework

    Today weve learnt many things about countries, review it after class, and finish Exercise2 on P18.

    Step2. Word Study

    Study the new words, get the students pronounce the new words themselves first, then read after the tape, correct the wrong ones.

    Step3. Listening Practice

    1. Pre-listening

    Listen to the words again;

    Forecast the content of the listening material according to

the new words and the pictures on the book.

    2. While-listening

    Listen to the dialogue when I play it for the first time, get a general of the listening material. (Introduce the location of London and Seattle, find them in the map of the world. London is in Britain, Europe. Its the capital of Britain. Seattle is a big city in the north- west of the USA, its in North America.) When I play it for the

    second time, try to find the answers to the questions of Part3, then check them when I play it for the third time.

    Listen to Part5 in the same way, pay attention to the adjectives which are used to describe Seattle, then finish Part6.

    Get the students read after the tape.

    3. Post-listening

    Group work

    Ask the students to read the dialogue in roles, underline the adjectives they hear, pay attention to the position in the sentences, find out the sentences that you are difficult to understand. Show the important expressions on PPT:

    What do you know about Canadians? If you want to know about them, skim the text and get the main idea of it, find out the topic sentence at the same time. (The first sentence)

    Do Canadians talk to strangers at a party? How does a foreigner feel in Canada? Scan the text, decide true or false in Part3.

    Now read the text carefully, underline the adjectives which are used to describe Canadians, pay attention to their placement, then finish Part4.

    Language Points:

    say hello to(greet): Please say hello to your parents for me.

    be new to: I am new to Beijing.

    talk to sb. like old friends: She talks to me like old friends.

    at the same time: We arrived here at the same time.

    give sb. a ride: They gave me a ride when I was walking.

    After explanation, get the students read the text after the tape.

    Step4. Practice

    Fill in the blanks with the words given in the box. (friendly; hello; friends; cold; beautiful)

    Pair work: Describe the pictures on P16 according to the example.

    Step5. Summarize and Homework

    Today we’ve learnt something about Canadians, what do you think of Canadians? Why do you think Canadians are nice, polite and friendly? If you want other people to be friendly and polite to you, you must be friendly and polite to others, don’t you think so?
