    SPARKLING WINE

Last summer the popularity of the „Bellini‟ cocktail really

took off. First concocted (allegedly) in Harry‟s Bar in

Venice, the original ingredients were Prosecco and white

peach purée (see p.12 under Mixers).

We are so impressed by Cremant de Bourgogne. So many

customers have described it as Champagne at half price! It

is made the same way and has the finesse and body to rival

    many a Champagne brand.

    .

This is one of our favourite areas of France. The wines have

great structure with softness on the palate. The full-bodied

    BURGUNDY

Auxey Duresses is one of the lesser known appellations of Burgundy that is located close to

Meursault. The wine from Louis Chavy has a great depth of rich flavour and glorious long finish

that is similar to its more illustrious neighbour, but lacks its pretensions in terms of price. We have

selected another stunning red made by André Goichot. His Chassagne-Montrachet is delicious.

We list the great 2003 vintage at the foot of this page. It was a

very busy campaign and they will make delightful drinking in 5 or

so years. They will not be shipped to the UK until this time next

year. If you want an honest budget claret look no further than

the Ch.Terre Blanche. The Appellation of Castillon is noted for a

    ITALY

We introduce a huge stunning wine from Chianti Terrubino 2000

from the Argiano Estate, some 10 kms East of Siena. Once owned by ththe Vatican, this stunning 13 century estate, consisting of 250 acres,

was bought by the Conci family who are restoring it back to its former

glory. The wine is known by the now-common nickname of „Super

Tuscan‟. The blend is 100% Cabernet-Sauvignon and the grapes are

only hand-picked. The concentration of fruit is superb with an

    incredibly long finish.

Rioja viewed by most as the King of Spanish reds produces

full-bodied, powerful wines with exceptional depth and length.

The Reservas (and higher quality) take a considerable time to

soften at the edges and hence the vintage (cosecha) is important.
