    07-08 School Year

*Carver’s play was chosen to be performed at Thespian Festival in Corpus Christi, A Bad

    Year for Tomatoes.

    *Performed Cinderella, Theatre’s first musical to be entered in the Tommy Tune Awards in collaboration with Houston Academy Drama and the Music Department. The Troupe received a Tommy Tune nomination for Best Orchestra.

    *Performed Black History show for various churches around the community

    *Troupe worked with Lori Amare and Kristina Gerard from Second Generation Dance thanks to City Councilman, Jarvis Johnson and they performed for the performing arts students at Carver High School. They conducted a workshop afterwards.

* Carver’s UIL show Before It Hits Home advanced all the way to the Area Competition.

    This is the first time Carver’s Theatre has made it to the third round of competition.

    *Jalissa Wilson received Best Actress twice at UIL competition (Zone & District) . This is the third year straight Carver has received this honor. Akilah Riddick received this honor last year and Jalissa received it her sophomore year.

    *Stanley Jackson received Best Actor at the UIL Zone competition. This is the first time Carver’s Theatre has received that honor.

    * Marcus Reynolds & Kami Willis (Zone), Curtis Huery & Marcus Reynolds (District), Jalissa Wilson & Stanley Jackson (Area) received All Star Cast Medals at UIL competitions.

    * Tanisha Jackson (Zone & Area), Stanley Jackson & Donte Wright (District), Angela Flakes (Area) received Honorable Mention Medals at UIL competitions.

    *Jessie Escalante (Zone), Teashia Harrison (District) & Luis Morales (Area) received best technical at UIL Competition.

*Troupe received Best Technical Crew at Zone Competition for Before It Hits Home.

    *Tanisha Jackson & Jalissa Wilson performed in the Finale Number at the Tommy Tune Awards.

    * In June, Stanley Jackson, Robert Hunter & Curtis Huery were cast in the Plaza Theatre’s production of Enchanted Sleeping Beauty.

    *2008 graduate Mia Raglin was cast for the title role of Aida for South Texas Summer Musical Encores summer production of AIDA. Juniors Givonne Johnson & Luis Morales

    were cast in the play also. The students also were cast in the summer production of High

    School Musical.

    *Carver cast members of AIDA participated in a workshop with Tony Award winner Jarrod Emmick. Students also got to act opposite him in AIDA.

    Troupe #6753

    Year In Review 2006-2007

    Carver Thespian Troupe #6753 had a dynamic school year under the direction of Roshunda Jones. The troupe held their second annual lock in which was a success. The first show of the season was Broadway Comes to Carver. The play consisted of acting

    scenes, monologues, dancing and singing from famous Broadway plays and musicals.

    We also performed selections of the show at Magnet Festival. Next, Carver attended Thespian Festival in Corpus, Christi where we conducted a workshop and performed, A

    Bad Year for Tomatoes.

    During Homecoming, Thespian Robert Hunter & Arely Pena were crowned Prince & Princess of the Homecoming Court and Stanley Jackson & Sharvay Petite were crowned Duke & Duchess of the Homecoming Court. In December, the drama department collaborated with choir, dance and orchestra to perform the Christmas show.

In January, the troupe performed Cinderella, Theatre’s first musical to be entered in the

    Tommy Tune Awards in collaboration with Houston Academy Drama and the Music Department. The Troupe received a Tommy Tune nomination for Best Orchestra. The

    drama troupe performed to a packed house with schools from around the district that came to see it. By the end of the show, everyone wanted to try on the glass slipper. At the end of January, the troupe performed in Austin at the TASA Midwinter Conference.

In February, the troupe performed their Black History show, To Be Young Gifted and

    Black. They performed at various churches and Carver.

    After spring break, the Panthers faced their most difficult task of the year : UIL One Act Play Competition with their interpretation of Before It Hits Home by Cheryl West. The

    Troupe advanced all the way to Area level competition. This is the first year Carver’s theatre advanced to the third round of competition. The Troupe received Best Actress at Zone & District Competition, six All Star Cast Medals total at Zone, District & Area competition and five Honorable Mention Medals total at Zone-Area Competition. In April, Tanisha Jackson & Jalissa Wilson performed in the Finale number of the Tommy Tune Awards.

This year, the annual banquet was held downtown at the China Bear Restaurant.

    Students were awarded with plaques, trophies, certificates and graduating seniors were given graduation honor cords and medallions. There were approximately 100 people in attendance. The students had an exciting year and can’t wait for the next school year.

    Senior Mia Raglin was cast as the title role of Aida for South Texas Summer's musical production of Aida. The organization's purpose is to give scholarships to graduating seniors planning to major in the performing arts. Juniors Givonne Johnson and Luis Morales were also cast in the play. The students were also cast the organization’s

    production of High School Musical. Carver cast members of AIDA participated in a

    workshop with Tony Award winner Jarrod Emmick. Students also got to act opposite him in AIDA
