1. Not to give head knowledge of names and character of God but to increase closeness of

    relationship with Him

    2. After studying names will be able to read scriptures and identify the different names and know

    the promises associated with each name are yours

    3. Each of us have areas in our personalities that aren't complete -- areas where we feel

    something isn't quite right

    a. God foresaw damage Satan and sin would produce in our lives so He created a plan to

    repair our fragmented personalities

    b. In His Word showed us pieces and parts of His total being by using many names for

    Himself -- each one with its own meaning and ability

    c. Every name fits like a replacement part into a broken personality

    d. When we incorporate these individual parts into the broken, hurting places in our lives,

    we become whole


    God of Power and Might

1. Occurs over 2500 times in Bible

    2. Name through which God reveals His power

    3. Made up of two parts - EL OHIM

    a. EL = all powerful (power and might)

    b. OHIM = plural

    a. Shows God's total power and ability to create

    Lord of Holiness

1. Comes from Hebrew word meaning "to live"

    a. Literally means to be fuel of life

    3. Jehovah is a personal God

    a. When Adam and Eve walked with God in the Garden of Eden, God was Elohim, not

    Jehovah to them

    b. They didn't have a personal, intimate walk with Him

    4. Jehovah, the Revealing One

    a. Reveals self as intimate, personal God

    b. Walks with you (present tense)

    c. Hebrews 13:5 - Jehovah will never leave nor forsake you

    d. More you grow in relationship with Him, more He will reveal Himself to you

    All Sufficient God

    1. First appears Genesis 17:1-2

    a. Translated God Almighty

    b. "God Almighty" not same as God of might and power (Elohim)

    c. God Almighty always relates to blessings and multiplication

    1) John 10:10 - Jesus speaking of El Shaddai, the one who supplies an abundance

    of nourishment for body, soul and spirit

    2. Name derived from Hebrew word meaning field as the field produces abundance

    a. Also translated breast or "the many breasted one" signifying nourishment and


    3. El Shaddai - the one who is more than enough; the all sufficient one saying "I am more than

    enough to meet your needs in every situation"

    1) God showed self as the impossible God in giving Abraham son at age 99

    2) Shows sufficiency by turning nature around and providing miracle

    1) Genesis 28:1-3 - Isaac telling Jacob El Shaddai will work contrary to nature to

    overcome any different circumstances

    from hardships to blessings)

    4) Gen 42:36 - Jacob said all these things are against me

    a) When we get eyes on the circumstances, become defeated; need to keep

    eyes on God

    b) Need to see things as God does, with spiritual eyes

    c) When do this will be speaking the solution and not the problem

    d) Word of God or solution brings faith; the problem brings fear and defeat

    e) Power of God will change the circumstances, trust in God and His word

    (1) As overcome circumstances, faith will take us to a higher plain of

    trust and closer walk with God

    5. God is faithful to His word

    a. Deuteronomy 7:9 - God is faithful and keeps His covenant to all those who obey Him

    b. Psalms 119:89-90 - Word is forever settled in heaven and He is faithful to 1000


    c. Lamentations 3:22-23 - Great is His faithfulness

    d. 2 Tim 2:13 - If we are faithless, He is still faithful

    1) Pride, greed, and lust are the things that snare a person and keeps him from

    walking with God and fulfilling His purpose in his life

    1) They'll lift you up in their hands and keep you from striking your foot against a

    stone m. You'll tread upon the lion and the cobra; the young lion and the serpent you'll trample


    8. These are the ways that El Shaddai will watch over you when you choose Him as your God

    a. El Shaddai can walk around total disaster

    b. Job lost everything - children, health, possessions, money - but he kept saying God is

    more than enough (Hebrews 10:23) c. Staked a claim under the shadow of the Almighty

    d. Job was blessed doubly at the end of his trial because he held on to El Shaddai

    1) 10 more children, lived 70 more years, had double wealth

    2) Had to hand on 9 months

    Lord, Master, Owner

    1. Translated "Lord" (not capitalized) in Bible

    2. Elohim, Jehovah, El Shaddai - all relate to person of God

    a. Adonai indicates our responsibility as His servants

    b. Knowing Him as Adonai helps you make a deeper commitment to Him 3. Used over 300 times in Old Testament alone

    4. Literally means master, own Lord

    a. Signifies ownership and our responsibility comes from being owned

    1) Redeemed by the blood of Jesus

    2) He purchased us 5. Like Elohim can be translated plural and possessive

    a. Confirms Triune God also - Psalms 110:1, Acts 2:36

    6. Adonai totally owns His people - Acts 20:28, Eph 1:14, 1 Cor 6:19-20, 7:21-22

    b. Jesus chose to be bondservant; chose to be pierced

    c. Today still carries signs of His bond slavery (pierced hands, feet, side, back, head) -

    b. By becoming bondservant to Him you become free in Him - 2 Corinthians 3:17

    1) Fear = respect, reverence

    9. Jesus can be Savior and still not Master - John 14:22-23

    a. Accepting Him as Master (Lord) is much different than accepting Him as Savior

    1) Accepting Him as Savior costs us nothing

    2) Accepting Him as Lord will cost you your life

    3) One is relationship, the other is fellowship

    God Who Provides

    1. Jehovah

    a. Personal God

    b. Eternal, changeless

    a. Means God's provision will be seen or Lord will provide

    3. Appears first time in Genesis 22:1-14 (story of Abraham being asked to sacrifice His only son


    a. Abraham was 120 years old and had walked with the Lord 50 years

    b. God tested Abraham's faith (trust in Him); giving Abraham opportunity to grow in his


    1) God wants us to move from faith to faith, glory to glory, strength to strength

    2) When we trust Him in situations and step out in faith, and His word meets our

    1) God won't make you obey Him

    2) Simply reveals His will and trusts you to follow it

    1) Abraham had total trust in God even though his mind might not have understood

    f. vs. 9-12 - Abraham's faith tested and proved strong

    g. vs. 13-14 - Ram provided by God to be sacrificed instead of Isaac symbol of Jesus

    provided as sacrifice for us - Revelations 13:8

    1) Just as God planned ahead for ram to be there, saw we would sin and planned

    ahead for provision of Jesus as sacrificial lamb - Jn 1:29, 1 Pet 1:18-20

    2) Called the place Jehovah Jireh, the Lord will provide

    3) "On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided" - through Jesus, Jehovah Jireh

    plans to meet everyone of our needs before we have a need

    a) As Abraham had to have total trust and not look at circumstances

    b) We must be willing to do all God wants us to do step by step without


    c) THEN Jehovah Jireh is the God that provides

    4. Hudson Taylor (first missionary to China) said "God's work done in God's way can't fail to

    have God's provision"

    5. Lu 22:35 - On the night Jesus was betrayed He asked His disciples "When I sent you without

    money and clothes, did you lack anything?" They answered "Nothing"

    a. God provided food, clothing and money to the first evangelists when they set out to tell

    the world about Jesus

    b. Not only physical provision but when commit self to serve Him completely He will give

    you the strength and health to do it

    c. When doing what God tells you to do will tell you what to say and provide the material

    to give them such as books, etc.

    God Who Sanctifies

    5. Many Christians go through life not really knowing God's plan for them (God wants us to know

    His plan - Eph 4:1)

    a. Walk aimlessly without getting involved in God's word, witnessing or becoming active

    in Body of Christ

    b. Key of why in this name

    6. To sanctify - to become holy, to dedicate

    7. Jehovah M'Kaddesh is the Holy One who demands holiness from His children

    8. Leviticus 20:7 instructs people to sanctify themselves

    a. Men must choose holiness

    9. Example of one who put off doing this - Nebuchadnezzar

    a. Many times God attempted to get him to turn to Him

    1) Daniel and 3 Hebrew children and diet

    2) Nebuchadnezzar's dream - Daniel 2

    3) Hebrew children in fire - Daniel 3

    4) Nebuchadnezzar's second dream - Daniel 4

    b. Spent 7 years in madness after declaring he had built the empire instead of God

    c. At end Jehovah M'Kaddesh became real to him

    10. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 - God wants us set apart totally to Him

    11. Sanctify self by relying totally on God in everything

    12. When become born again should set self apart in Jesus

    a. Have already been set apart by Jehovah M'Kaddesh

    b. Must be set apart spirit, flesh, mind

    13. Christians who aren't totally set apart don't know Jehovah M'Kaddesh

    14. Holiness of God will change you in all areas of life when under Jehovah M'Kaddesh

    15. God's Spirit is holy - called Holy Spirit; should not be living in unholy vessel

    16. We have a free will and God will never demand us to be holy

    17. 1 Peter 1:15-16, 1 Peter 2:9

    18. When sanctify self your light will shine to world and draw them to Jesus
