    1. Drill Pipe Pressure (DPP) and Casing Pressure

    (CP) on initial shut in.

    Gas Influx

    Big difference between DPP and CP on initial

    shut in (except in case of a very large liquid

    kick)

    Liquid Influx

    CP and DPP close to each other (except a gas

    kick in a horizontal well)

    2. Pressure changes with time.

    Gas Influx

     CP and DPP keep increasing with time ( pressure

    inversion)

     Liquid Influx

     CP and DPP stabilize and stay ( no inversion) 3. Gauge response when circulating influx

     Gas Influx

     When circulation is started, CP increase quite

    quickly but DPP responds with a delay ( lag

    time)

    Liquid Influx

     When circulation is started, CP and DPP

    respond quite rapidly ( no lag time)

    4. Volume change during circulation.

     Gas Influx

     CP increase with an increase in pit volume while

    the kick is being circulated to surface.

     Liquid Influx

     Very little increase in CP and very little increase

    in pit gain during the circulation of the kick.
