    Lectures 15 h

    Sources and reasons of arising waste water and soil and groundwater contamination. Types and characteristics of contaminants.

    Surface phenomenon adsorption, ion exchange, colloidal system, coagulation.

    Sedimentation of suspended solids and flocculent.

    Filtration of water and waste water.

    Redox reaction in technology of waste water.

    Membrane processes in water and waste water desalting.

    Biological sewage treatment (on biofilter and with the use of activated sludge). Biological treatment for removing phosphorus and nitrogen from waste water.

    Removal of ammonia nitrogen from waste water with the use of physical chemistry methods. Methods of soil and groundwater decontamination: geotechnical methods, hydraulic methods, immobilization and detoxification, PRB technology, biological methods, thermal methods, soil vapor extraction and soil venting, soil washing

    Laboratory 30 h

    Removal of heavy metals from waste water as a result of redox reaction.

    Removal of petroleum contaminants from soil with the use of thermal methods. Determination of organic carbon according to Tiurin method.

    Determination of adsorption parameters. Determination of COD.

    Removal of petroleum contaminants from soil with the use of extraction method. Sedimentation of suspended solids: determination of settling in measuring cylinders, testing of polyelectrolyte influence (their type and volume) on settling effect, analysis of suspended solids in waste water using gravimetric method.

    Vacuum filtration: determination of filter cake moisture, analysis of suspended solids in waste water using gravimetric method.

    Removal of heavy metals from waste water as a result of chemical precipitation. Neutralization of waste water by pH control: determination of reacting substances type and dose. Removal of suspended solids by meads of flotation process.

    Degassing of water.
