    UPPERCLASS SCHOLARSHIPS

    (Sophomore Senior III)

    DEADLINE: FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2009

EXPLANANTION OF AWARDS

    These scholarships are offered to students who are expected to have obtained sophomore status or higher by

    July 1, 2009.

Scholarships are awarded based on criteria listed here as well as many other factors such as academic honors

    and awards, community service and extracurricular activities.

HOW TO APPLY:

    ? Complete the FAFSA by Friday, April 3, 2009

    ? Complete the Upperclass Scholarship Application

NOTE: If a scholarship requires you to demonstrate financial need,

    you MUST complete a FAFSA.

    Zora Arkus-Duntov Memorial Scholarship

    Must be a Mechanical Engineering student with an automotive specialty, with a minimum CGPA of 85

    and demonstrate financial need. Established by a Corvette enthusiast and owner of Mid America

    Designs, Michael Yager.

Astbury Management Scholarship

     Must be full-time Management student from Indiana with a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate

    financial need. Dan Astbury is a GMI class of 1978 graduate, and Kathy Astbury is a GMI class of 1980

    graduate.

Bennett Memorial Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate financial need. Preference is

    given to students from Kentucky. Conrad Bennett was a GMI class of 1947 graduate.

Marsha C. Brown Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority Scholarship

     Must be a full-time female student with a minimum CGPA of 85 involved in both school and work

    activities. Established in memory of Marsha Brown, Kettering University staff member.

Build a Bulldog Scholarship

    Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 88 and demonstrate financial need. Funded by

    employees of Kettering University.

Richard R. Burgett Scholarship

     Must be a full-time upperclass student with a CGPA of 90.0, pursuing a degree in engineering, and

     employed by a unit of General Motors Corporation. Must demonstrate financial need.

Connie John Memorial Scholarship

    Must be a full-time student, demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. Established in

    memory of Connie John, wife of Kettering’s immediate past-president, James E. A. John.

Darlington Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Chemistry major with a minimum CGPA of 85. Preference is given to students who

    have completed at least one physical chemistry class. Established in honor of Albert Darlington,

    Kettering University faculty member.

Richard G. “Dickey” Deane Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Junior II level or higher student as of July 1, 2007, Management Systems student

     with a minimum CGPA of 85 involved in both school and work activities. “Dickey” Deane was a

     member of the Kettering University faculty.

General Endowed Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85, demonstrate financial need and be

    involved in both school and work activities. Funded by alumni and friends of Kettering University.

GM Hispanic Scholarship Fund

     Must be Hispanic, interest in auto industry, with a CGPA of 85 or above.

GM Symposium Scholarship Fund

     Must be a female or minority manufacturing engineering major or who are working in a manufacturing

     facility, and with a GPA of 85 or above.

Lucien F. Govaerts Scholarship

    Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate financial need. Preference

    is given to students who live or work in Kentucky. First consideration will be given to students who co-

    op with Suntec (Glaskow, KY). Lucien Govaerts is a GMI class of 1967 graduate.

Janette M. and Robert J. Grant Endowed Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85, demonstrate financial need, a resident

    of Michigan or New York and be involved in extra-curricular activities. Robert Grant is a GMI class of

    1949 graduate.

Ruth and Jim Grimaldi Annual Scholarship

     Must be a full-time male student majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum CGPA of 85 and

    live and work in the state of Michigan.

Harris Family Scholarship

     Must be a full-time engineering student with a minimum CGPA of 93. Established by the Harris

    Family in honor of their parents, Claire and Floyd Harris.

Jack Hartzell Memorial Scholarship

    Must be a full-time student, resident of west central Ohio and demonstrate financial need. Established

    in memory of Jack Hartzell, Kettering University’s Associate Vice President for Alumni Affairs and a

    GMI class of 1960 graduate.

Kristin Ansted Harvey and Steven William Harvey Memorial Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate financial need.

     Established in memory of Kristen Ansted Harvey and her husband Steve Harvey, both GMI class of

    1989 graduates.

Ralph K. and Sharon M. Hillquist Endowed Scholarship

     Must be a junior or senior in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum CGPA of 85. Preference is

    given to students specializing in noise and vibration (i.e. acoustics, static, dynamic, physics, vibration).

    Ralph Hillquist is a GMI class of 1959 graduate and the founder of the SAE Noise and Vibration

    Conference.

Hoagland Scholastic Achievement Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Mechanical Engineering major and be on the Dean’s list. Larry Hoagland is a GMI

    class of 1953 graduate.

Barthold and Dorothy Hoemann Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85, demonstrate financial need, and be involved

    in extracurricular activities at both school and work. Preference is given to engineering students who

    were graduates of a high school located in the Michigan counties of Sanilac, Huron, Tuscola.

     Bart Hoemann is a GMI class of 1961 graduate.

Joseph Hudson Memorial Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Applied Mathematics student with a minimum CGPA of 85, demonstrate

    financial need and submit an essay showing your interest and long term goals in Applied Mathematics.

     Established in memory of Joseph Hudson, Kettering University faculty member.

Dorothy Jane and V. Jay Martin Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85, demonstrate financial need and be a

    resident of Indiana. Preference is given to resident of Morgan, Boone and Hendricks counties.

     V. Jay Martin is a GMI class of 1948 graduate.

Charles F. Kettering Scholarship

     Must be a resident of Ohio, demonstrate financial need and work for an Ohio firm during the co-op work

    terms. Established by the Kettering Fund of Dayton, Ohio.

Harry W. Lange Scholarship

     Must be a full-time upperclassmen with a minimum CGPA of 85. Preference given to graduates of

     Michigan high schools north of Houghton Lake.

Kenneth F. and Brenda E. Lingg Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and a General Motors co-op student.

     Kenneth Lingg is a GMI class of 1949 graduate.

Robert W. Martin Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Management student and a member of Sigma Alpha Chi with a minimum CGPA of

    93. Robert Martin is a GMI class of 1957 graduate.

Hans and Gertrude Matthias Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate financial need. Hans

    Matthias was a GMI class of 1938 graduate.

The Stephen and Joan McEwen Scholarship

     Must be a resident of north central Ohio, Mechanical Engineering major with an interest in Fluid

    Dynamics and demonstrate financial need. Stephen McEwen is a GMI class of 1954 graduate.

Brian J. McHale II Memorial Scholarship

     Must be a full-time engineering student with an interest in crash safety area of study, demonstrate

     financial need, and have a minimum CGPA of 85.

Donald Miles Memorial Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student that is recommended by a Kettering University faculty or staff member.

    Established in memory of Donald Miles by his wife, Susan, friends of the university.

Louis and Florence Millon Endowed Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student and demonstrate financial need. Louis Millon is a GMI class of 1933

    graduate.

Frank and Joan Mitchell Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate financial need. Frank

    Mitchell is a GMI class of 1937 graduate.

John R. Nasi Scholarship

     Must be from Michigan, demonstrate financial need, academic achievement and be involved in

    extracurricular activities. Preference is given to students from the Upper Peninsula. John Nasi is a

    GMI class of 1964 graduate. John attended Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood, Michigan.

Gus C. Nick Scholarship

     Must live or work in Illinois, Ohio or Michigan, be a junior or above, a member of the American Society

    of Mechanical Engineers, have a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate financial need. Gus Nick was

    1944 graduate.

Florence and Robert Nulty Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student demonstrating merit and financial need. Robert Nulty is a GMI class of

    1930 graduate.

William E. Oram Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Mechanical Engineering major, have a minimum CGPA of 85, live and work in

    the state of Michigan and demonstrate financial need. William Oram was a GMI class of 1954

    graduate.

Parent’s Association Scholarship

     Must be a Junior I level or above student with a minimum CGPA of 90 and demonstrate financial need.

     Funded by the Kettering University Parent’s Association.

Marissa and Eric Peterson Scholarship

     Must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. Preference is given to residents of the

    Silicon Valley Region of California, California and the western states. Marissa Peterson is a GMI class

    of 1983 graduate.

The David Piper Scholarship

     Must be a Sophomore level student enrolled in the ME program with either an EE or Fuel Cell

     concentration. Candidates must have some connection to either Indiana or Michigan (home or work)

     A co-op position with General Motors is preferred.

Jack and Amy Qualman Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Mechanical Engineering major with a minimum CGPA of 90 and General Motors

    co-op student. Jack Qualman is a GMI class of 1937 graduate.

Schlotterbeck Annual Scholarship

     Must be a female student who is a resident of California or the western states and have good academic

    standing. Preference is given to those demonstrating financial need. David Schlotterbeck is a GMI class

    of 1970 graduate.

Eugene W. Stefanyshyn Scholarship

     Must be an engineering student who demonstrates financial need. Eugene Stefanyshyn is a GMI class of

    1981 graduate.

Steinke-Seignac Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and a General Motors co-op student.

    Financial need may be a consideration. Established in memory of Dale Steinke, GMI class of 1956

    graduate and Jean Seignac, GMI class of 1968 graduate.

Karen Stewart Endowed Scholarship

     Must be a female student with a minimum CGPA of 94. Karen Stewart is a GMI class of 1970

    graduate.

Reverend Leon Sullivan Scholarship

     Must be a full-time African-American student with a minimum CGPA of 86, active in Black Unity

    Congress (BUC), student government (GMTE), Greek Organizations, professional societies and

    community activities at school and/or work. Established in honor of Reverend Leon Sullivan, author of

    “The Global Sullivan Principles” and former member of the General Motors Board of Directors.

Sun Microsystem Scholarship

     Must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. Preference is given to students from the

    “greater” Bay Region of northern California, California and the western states. Established by the

    Bunker Foundation of California.

Jan Tannehill Memorial Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85, a General Motors co-op student and

    demonstrate financial need. Submit one letter of recommendation from a G.M. supervisor or Kettering

    University professor.

James Throop Endowed Scholarship

     Must be entering their senior year with the top GPA in the ME/EE degree program(or ME major/

     EE minor program.

Frederick G. Wacker Jr. Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student and demonstrate financial need. Frederick Wacher Jr. was a GMI class of

    1944 graduate.

Martin D. Walker Scholarship

     Must be a full-time sophomore level male student, with a minimum CGPA of 86 and demonstrate

     financial need. Martin “Skip” Walker is a GMI class of 1954 graduate.

Mary Walker Scholarship

     Must be a full-time sophomore level female student, with a minimum CGPA of 86 and demonstrate

     financial need. Mary Walker is the wife of 1954 GMI alum Martin Walker.

Leonard Wocholski Scholarship

     Must be a full-time student with a minimum CGPA of 85, either live or work in northern Indiana and

    demonstrate financial need. Established in honor of Professor Leonard Wocholski by Warrne, BMI

    class of 1944 graduate, and Judy Rider.

Bob Worlforth Memorial Scholarship

     Must be a full-time Mechanical Engineering student. Bob Wolforth was a GMI class of 1958 graduate.

Herman J. Wolfe Scholarship

     Must be a full-time engineering student with a minimum CGPA of 85 and demonstrate financial need.

    Preference is given to students graduating from high schools located in Michigan counties of Sanilac,

    Huron or Tuscola. Established in honor of Herman Wolfe, a former Ford Motor Company Engineer, by

    Robert Booth, GMI class of 1966 graduate.

Frank and Joyce Young Endowed Scholarship

     Must be a full-time female student with a minimum CGPA of 85. Frank Young is a GMI class of 1950

    graduate.
