TIME LESSON CONTENT TEACHING POINTS & ORGANIZATION

     Introductory Activities ; Students find their own space in the gym

     ; Move arms out sideways up to ceiling and 5 mins ; Teacher-guided warm-down; legs stand apart (repeat 4 times)

    up stretch to music ; Bend knees; stretch body over to right side,

     down in front, middle, left side, straight up

    (repeat left)

    ; Straighten knees; move head forward and

    backward (4x), tilt side to side (4x), look

    side to side (4x), semi-circle to right

    shoulder and left shoulder (2x), full head

    circle to right (repeat to left)

    ; Stretch both arms up to ceiling (4 counts),

    arms straight down on either side (4 counts)

    ; Shrug shoulders up (4 counts), alternate

    right and left (4 counts), circle shoulders

    right (2x-4 counts and repeat to left), circle

    both forward (2x) and back (2x)

    ; Right arm extend in front of body up to ear

    and down by side (4x and repeat left), both

    straighten both legs keeping body leaning

    over left leg (hold 4 counts), repeat on

    opposite side

    ; Feet together and hands by side-raise and

    lower feet (4x-hold for 2 counts and then

    8x-hold for 1 count)

    ; Point right foot in front of body-point and

    flex (8x), circle outwards (8 counts), circle

    inward (8 counts), repeat with left foot

    ; 8 quick small jumps with feet together,

    repeat with feet apart, 8 jumping jacks

    ; Stretch right am across body (hold 8

    counts), repeat with left arm

    ; Find spot on wall to lean against and hold

    right ankle behind body to stretch quads

    (hold 8 counts), repeat with left leg

    ; Teacher instructs students to move to a spot

    in the gym where they can see the

    instructors

     Skill Development-Concept ; Miss den Ouden instructs students to listen

     to the music and try to walk on the spot to

    33 mins 1. Walk on the spot to the beat the beat-step 1 with music

    of the music for 16 counts ; Miss den Ouden instructs students to do starting with the right foot. this for 16 counts after she counts them in

     ; Miss Glover instructs students on step 2, 2. Side gallop starting on right without music, reminding them to keep foot-finish with legs together their knees bent and stay low to the ground

    and two claps for a total of 4 ; Miss Glover instructs students to do this 4 counts-repeat twice on each side times-alternating right and left foots

     ; Miss Glover leads students in steps 1 & 2 3. Hop step to right-step on without music and then with music right foot, hop and land with ; Miss Smith instructs students on step 3 feet together-take 2 counts and without music and repeated once clap on the second, repeat on ; Miss Smith leads students in steps 1- 3 left side, right side, left side without music and then with music ; Miss Smith instructs students on step 4 4. Pivot step starting on right without music telling them that they can do foot to face back and again to what they want with their arms face front; hands on hips ; Miss Smith leads students in steps 1-4 without music and then with music 5. Box Step beginning with ; Miss Glover instructs students on step 5 right foot (3 times) with hands without music on hips ; Miss Glover leads students in steps 1-5 without music and then with music (go 6. Hop to front with arms up, through twice with music) hop to back with arms behind,

    hop to right side with right arm ; Miss den Ouden instructs students on step 6

    up, hop to left side with left arm without music

    up ; Miss den Ouden leads students through

     steps 1-6 without music and then with

    7. Switch back and front lines music

    and begin walking on the spot ; Miss den Ouden instructs students on step 7

    for a total of 16 counts. Repeat without music and then steps 1-7 with

    the dance music

     Culminating Activity ; Students are instructed to go through all of

     the steps so that they do the movement

     once in the front line and once in the back ; Mastery!!

Jazz Movement Sequence to “Crazy in Love”-Beyonce

    This lesson was designed for grade three but may be slightly altered to fit grades two to four.

    1. Walk on the spot to the beat of the music for 16 counts starting with the right foot.

    2. Side gallop with arms bent at side. Start on right foot and go to the right, then left, then right, then left. Finish each gallop with two claps for a total of 4 counts each

    3. Hop step to right-step on right foot, hop and land with feet together-take 2 counts and clap on the second, repeat on left side, right side, and left side again

    4. Pivot step starting on right foot to face back and again to face front; hands on hips

    5. Box Step beginning with right foot (3 times) with hands on hips-cross right foot over left, step back onto left foot, step out with right and step forward with left

    6. Hop to front with arms up, hop to back with arms behind, hop to right side with right arm up, hop to left side with left arm up

    7. Switch back and front lines taking 16 counts (in you arrive before 16 counts, walk on the spot). Repeat all of the steps of the movement sequence

    8. To make this more challenging, after the lines switch, begin all moves with the left foot
