On Business Communication Style in The Republic of Maldives

This year I was sent to Maldives to develop our business. Our company is majors in hotels and resorts in Shanghai. The Maldives is the largest coral island nation in the world .Its lies in two rows of atolls in the Indian Ocean and Southwest of Sri Lankajust across the equator. The

Maldives consists of approximately 1,190 local islands grouped in a double chain of 26 atoll along the north-south direction, spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometers, making this one of the world's most dispersed countries and it’s the smallest Asian country in both population and land

area. Its population of 313,920 inhabits 200 of its 1,192 islands. It’s also the lowest country in the

world, with a maximum natural ground level of only 2.3 meters, with the average being only 1.5 meters above sea level and the Maldives' forecast inundation is a great concern for the Maldivian people. Maldives' capital and largest city Malé and Members of the social elite are concentrated in here.

    ?.Our advantages developing

The sun, the sand, the waves and the palm fringed islands make Maldives a traveler’s

paradise and Maldives vacation attracts tourists throughout through the world to enjoy holidays in its frothy waters.

The Maldives was honored to receive the award for Worldwide Beach and one of the world's ten biggest tourist resorts.

About 700000 tourist visit the Maldives every year and the Chinese tourists are keep more than 15% growth rate year-on-year.

The economy of the Republic of the Maldives is based primarily on tourism fishing and Shipping. Especially tourism Contributed 28% of GDP and 60% of foreign exchange income and over 90% of government tax revenue comes from import duties and tourism-related taxes. The Maldives has embarked on a rapid tourism expansion plan and the government has awarded tenders for the development of several new resorts. So the government is welcome to all business organizations and agents in the Maldives either in areas of developing tourism industry or service sectors.

Therefore our company investment in the Maldives will be easy and I sure that we will have a good development prospect in the Maldives.

     ?.Business communication etiquette in Maldives

Since the islands import almost everything, business potential is high, but only in Malé. Most business takes place during the morning and Friday and Saturday are official rest days. One has to make prior appointment with person with whom one wants to meet and the he meeting atmosphere is generally informal Appointments should be made well in advance. For business meetings, men normally wear a short-sleeved shirt and tie with formal but lightweight trousers. Women wear a

lightweight suit or equivalent. Handshaking is the customary form of greeting.

Islam is the official religion of The Maldives and is a 99.41% Muslim country so it has some Religious Taboos. A large number of locals smoke, but smoking and eating during Ramadan is discouraged. Maldivians are brought up to respect elders and those who are educated while conforming to an Islamic

Maldivians are polite and pay attention to etiquette when meeting a local for the first time a handshake is the most common form of greeting, accompanied by the Arabic expression 'Assalaam Alaikum'. As for greetings between a man and a woman, while handshakes are a common form of greeting, many times a simple nod or slight bow will do as many men and women generally do not engage in physical contact. At the house of a Maldivian friend or acquaintance, be sure to remove your shoes before entering, leaving them at the front door or where you see others have left theirs.

If you choose to invite Maldivian friends for a meal at a restaurant, you will most likely be expected to pay. Religious values prohibit the locals to consume pork drink alcohol and scaleless

fishes so it's best to avoid offering anybody either. In Maldives is a very common phenomenon of charity, otherwise, it will not be welcome and despised. At the dinner table, visitors should wait

until all guests are seated before commencing eating. It's polite to try a little of everything that you are offered and to avoid emptying your plate completely as this might infer that you were not offered enough and may be taken as an insult by your host. It's polite to try a little of everything that you are offered and to avoid emptying your plate completely as this might infer that you were not offered enough and may be taken as an insult by your host.

Dress is informal, but locals who are Muslim will be offended by nudity or scanty clothing in public places, and the government rigidly enforces these standards. Bikinis and other scanty beachwear are not acceptable in Malé or on any other inhabited island; they should be restricted to resort islands only. When entering a mosque, the legs and the body, but not the neck and the face, should be covered. However, the resort islands are very relaxed and casual dress is the norm. Note though that beachwear is not acceptable in the restaurants on resort islands or away from the resorts. Guests entering the restaurant in swimwear will be asked by a member of staff to cover up. See-through cover ups for example sarongs made from sheer fabric are also not acceptable in the

restaurant. When visiting the capital Male, or local islands, visitors should adopt a more modest form of dress and ensure that shoulders and thighs, at least, are covered. Topless sunbathing is

against the law, although it is seen from time to time from tourists who choose to show a lack of respect for local customs.

In order to protect the environmentthe Maldives government has drawn up strict

    environment protection laws such as

?It is strictly prohibited to fishing privately in the island, picking or trample on the coral and the lawbreaker would Be Fine $5000.

?No general tumult and clamor on the island , don't litter and make sure that the nature of the environment beautiful and peaceful.

?Is prohibited cooking in hotel room and the lawbreaker would Be Fine $5000.etc.

?.Conclusion

Although the travel foreground are well in Maldives nowbut there are some factors

disadvantage in our investment. It was due to global warming, the Maldives land will be narrowed and even submerged by the sea then disappear on the earth in the future. So we should pay attention to climate change constantly and carry on the various investigations, then wary of

investing. Whether we decided to construction of the investwe must pay more attention to

environmental protection, in order to improve our interest in the future.
