    Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the fee for recertification?

There is no fee unless you are not an AOA member. Starting in 2010, COPM designees will

be assessed an additional $75 with their AOA dues. This annual assessment replaces the

    recertification fee.

2. What is the continuing education requirement?

If you passed the exam in 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008 your COPM certification will expire five

years from the date of your certification. During this five year period you are required to

obtain a total of 75 continuing education units (CEUs) and we encourage you to earn 15

CEUs annually. If you passed the exam in 2009 or later, your certification will expire two

years from the date of your certification. A list of AOA Approved CEUs is available on the

    AOA website, www.oto-online.org

3. What is my COPM anniversary date?

Your COPM certificate includes both your certification date and date of expiration.

4. How do I submit continuing education credits to COPM?

It is recommended that you track your CEUs annually. The CEU form is available on the

AOA website. A recertification packet is available which includes a recertification

application and continuing education unit reporting form.

    5. How do I know if a particular program qualifies for continuing education credit?

A list of AOA Approved CEUs is available on the AOA website at www.oto-online.org.

Instructions for non-approved CEUs are also found on the website.

6. Is there a continuing education extension allowed?

Normally, all CEUs must be completed by your expiration date to qualify. In

extenuating circumstances, you may make an appeal to the COPM Advisory Board

for an extension. Any extension requests will be handled on an individual basis.

7. Will I receive a new certificate when I recertify?

Yes, provided your application for recertification is approved. Your recertification will be

    valid for two years.
