What is an RSA SecurID Token?

A SecurID Token is a portable device with two-factor authentication allowing users to access

    HQ resources from outside locations.

Why do I need a SecurID Token?

A SecurID token is necessary to use the Virtual Private Network (VPN), Secure Nomadic Access

(SNA), as well as the HQ Wireless network. There are also many HQ custom applications that

    require a token.

    1

How do I get a SecurID Token?

A SecurID Token is issued to all new HQ users as part of their standard accounts. If you do not have a SecurID Token, contact the IT Help Desk to request one.

How can I access HQ systems remotely?

HQ users have several options for remote access, although not all require a SecurID Token:

; Secure Nomadic Access (SNA) requires a SecurID Token.

; Virtual Private Network (VPN) requires a SecurID Token and a NASA-issued laptop.

; Outlook Web Access (OWA) does not require a SecurID token. The address is

    http://webmail.nasa.gov.

For detailed information concerning each of these methods, see the Remote Connectivity Guide.

How do I use my SecurID Token to login to Secure Nomadic Access (SNA)?

    1. Type the following address in your Web browser: https://sna.hq.nasa.gov.

Since this is a secure site, the URL address begins with “https

    2. Enter your NASA HQ domain username in the Username field.

This is the same username you use to login to the HQ network (i.e., jsmith).

    3. In the “Password: field, enter your PIN, immediately followed by the 6-digit

number displayed on your SecurID Token. Do not include a space between the two

codes. Your PIN is the code you chose yourself, which consists of 4 to 8 letters and/or

     numbers. Special characters (i.e. ! @ # % ^ & *) are NOT allowed.

    4. Click the Sign In button.

Note: If a blank Web page appears after you enter your username and password, it may be because JavaScript is not enabled. JavaScript must be enabled in your browser for SNA to work.

What if I forget my SecurID Token PIN?

You may contact the IT Help Desk at 358-HELP or 1-866-4NASAHQ (462-7247) and request a

PIN reset. They will open a ticket and you will be contacted by an Account Administrator who

    2

will verify your identity and then place you in “new PIN” mode. You will receive an e-mail with

instructions to login to the RSA SecurID Web site for setting your PIN.

What do I need to log into the RSA SecurID Web site?

; Internet access from a Web browser with cookies enabled or turned “on”

; A current, valid SecurID Token

    ; Your HQ domain username

    ; Your SecurID PIN

How do I reset my SecurID Token PIN?

Note: If your SecurID Token is not placed in “New PIN mode” first, you will not be able to reset your PIN.

    1. Call the IT Help Desk at 358-HELP or 1-866-4NASAHQ (462-7247) and request that

your SecurID token be placed in “New PIN” mode. Only after this occurs will you be

able to reset your PIN from the RSA SecurID Web site.

    2. Open a Web browser and go to https://pollux.hq.nasa.gov/securid.

    3. Enter your HQ domain username in the Usernamefield.

    4. Enter the 6-digit number displayed on your SecurID Token into the Passcode field.

    5. Click Send. (Do NOT press the Enter key on your computer’s keyboard.)

    6. Create your own PIN consisting of 4 to 8 letters and/or numbers. Special characters

    (! @ # % ^ & *) are NOT allowed.

    7. Enter your PIN in the New PINfield and in the “Verify New PINfield.

    8. Click “Send.

    9. At this point, your PIN will be successfully reset. (The next screen that displays is the

    verification screen.)

    10. Your username should remain populated in the Username field. If not, re-enter your

username. In the second field, enter your newly created PIN + the next 6-digit number to

display on your token, with no spaces in between them. (The 6-digit number on your

    token changes every 10 seconds.)

    11. Click “Send.

You will see a message confirming that you have successfully initialized your PIN. If you

subsequently get the error message that “the page cannot be found,” simply ignore it. Your

    new PIN has been saved.

    3

Why am I receiving the error message “The page cannot be

    found?

Typically, users do not login to the RSA Web site directly. Users are automatically redirected to the RSA Web site when attempting to login to a NASA HQ application from outside the NASA HQ network. In such cases, users are redirected to the SNA Web site to authenticate their identity. Once a user is successfully logged in with their SecurID token, they are again redirected back to the desired application.

This convenience feature can cause confusion on those (much less frequent) occasions when a user logs into the RSA SecurID Web site directly to perform a function related only to RSA (i.e., to reset his or her PIN). In this case, the RSA SecurID Web site cannot identify your login request as related to any attempt to login to a NASA HQ application, and delivers the error message “The page cannot be found. If you receive this message from the SNA Web site, you

    can safely ignore it.

How can I tell when my SecurID Token will expire?

You will find the expiration date (mm/dd/yy) in small print on the back of your token.

I forgot my Token and I am on travel. Now what?

If you forget your token, it is possible to obtain a temporary code while working from home or on travel. Call the IT Help Desk at 358-HELP or 1-866-4NASAHQ to begin this process.

Temporary codes are only issued during business hours (Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

What if I lose my SecurID Token?

If you lose your SecurID token, call the IT Help Desk at 358-HELP or 1-866-4NASAHQ (462-

7247). You will be asked to fill out an NHQ Form 598 and submit it to Account Administration in Room CX42. If you have an immediate need for a SecurID Token, you may request a temporary token code which can be obtained quickly. Replacing your permanent SecurID Token may take longer.

Where can I get personal assistance with my SecurID Token?

If you encounter problems using your SecurID Token, visit the User Resource Center (URC) for personal assistance. The URC is located on the Concourse Level of the Headquarters building in Room CX42.
