    Clinical Trials Honour Roll

International Clinical Trials Day, 20 May 2009

INTRODUCTION

Medical research is widely recognised by the community as a valuable service. Clinical trials are a subset of medical research that provide the evidence to translate new discoveries and ideas into clinical practice. A variety of stakeholders, both volunteer and professional, must work together in partnership to make clinical trials happen. Without scientists, investigators, nurses, funding, infrastructure and equipment, regulatory and ethical oversight, collaboration, monitoring and human volunteers contributing time and resources to clinical trials, medicine would not advance as quickly or safely.

This Honour Roll publicly recognises and celebrates the individuals and organisations that have nominated themselves or others for their contribution to clinical trials in Australasia since Jan 2008, thereby helping to advance medical knowledge for the benefit of the entire community. We specifically congratulate Ms Stella Green and the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research for being the most nominated individual and organisation, respectively, on the 2009 Honour Roll.

AccessCR would like to thank the following organisations for their in-kind support in encouraging participation in this event, thereby showing their commitment to supporting and growing Australasian clinical research at a time when Australasia faces significant

challenges in the clinical trials environment.

The importance of clinical trials to Australia and New Zealand cannot be understated. As evidenced by this list a large cross-section of individuals and organisations have contributed and benefitted by their involvement in trials as volunteers, professionals or

organisations, because of access to the latest treatments in development, professional opportunities in research or from a culture of continuous improvement and excellence that research encourages. At just under 180 individuals and organisations, this is only a sample of those involved in Australasian research. On International Clinical Trials Day, we salute you, and all your colleagues helping advance medical knowledge and treatments for the benefit of us all.
