Purpose

    People who have been awarded this qualification are able to develop training programmes, assess, and train guide dogs to international standards for use within New Zealand and overseas, and to provide information to the media and interest groups.

    This diploma leads onto the National Diploma in Guide Dog Training (Instructor) [Ref: 0265].

    Recommended: (Massey University), 195.102 (Principles of Canine Behaviour) and 195.103 (Canine Health and Husbandry).

    This qualification will be awarded to people who have met the following requirements.

Award of NQF Qualifications

    Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.

    Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.

Version 5 was issued to transfer the standard setting responsibility for this qualification

    from NZQA to the Community Support Services Industry Training Organisation.

Changes to structure and content

    ; Standard 129 has been deleted as it has expired and is not being replaced. ; Classification of standards 7393-7395 updated to reflect new domain Guide Dog Training.

Previous versions of the qualification

    Version 4 was issued to extend the registration period, change the standards setting body from Animal Nursing and Technology (ANTECH) Board to NZQA, and update the identification number for the recommended Massey University qualification.

Version 3 was to extend the period of registration.

    Version 2 was issued to take account of the Business Administration unit standard review.

    Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by a recognised Quality Assurance Body before they can register credits from assessment against standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and the moderation system are outlined in the associated Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for each standard.
