This course deals with statistical methodologies used in analyzing gene expression microarray data. Visualization techniques, data pre-processing and normalization methods, analysis of variance procedure and cluster analysis will be discussed. The course will also focus on methods used for the selection of differentially regulated genes.

Course Learning Objectives

The student will be able to:

     At the end of this course the student will be able to

    1. Describe statistical and biological aspects and principles of microarray

    experiments.

    2. Describe single and double channel microarray experiment

    3. Construct optimal statistical designs for microarrays

    4. Explain and describe normalization techniques

    5. Determine appropriate differential expression methods to select genes

    6. Explain and measure the false discovering rate.

    7. Apply clustering techniques for microarray data
