The emphasis of this course is the management and analysis of bioinformatics data at the molecular-level using the open source statistical computing environment R. The course will include applications of Bioconductor project for biological data, debugging programs, data manipulation, data description, and basic statistical analysis for bioinformatics data.

BINF 6200 BIOINFORMATICS COMPUTATIONS USING R

Course Learning Objectives

The student will be able to:

     At the end of this course the student will be able to

    1. Employ effective strategies for reading, writing, and debugging R

    programs

    2. Operate the R software to manage and manipulate bioinformatics data in a

    variety of formats

    3. Illustrate the data structure facilities available in Bioconductor Project

    4. Setup importing and preprocessing

    (a) high density oligonucleotide arrays data

    (b) two-color spotted arrays data

    5. Use meta-data resources and tools available in Bioconductor Project

    6. Perform GO package

    7. Analyze differential gene expression studies using bioconductor programs

    8. Perform cluster analysis using bioconductor programs

    9. Perform Pathway annotation package using bioconductor programs
