    This program includes as theoretical issues which are useful for voluntary work as practical elements. The general mechanism of integration of training’s skills is the following:

    1) practical introduction of the topic which gives a possibility for participants to touch the

    issue by the own experience

    2) theoretical basis of the topic

    3) discussion and conclusions

    4) practice of using knowledge and skills

    The program also gives a chance for participants to realize the activity closely related to their long-term project, so they collect the experience of successful voluntary work in Russia already in the process of the training.

Detailed program

     st Day 1

    The main topic of the first day is work in team and active participation. Because of the technical problems (bus arrived 2 hours later than was planned) the program was skipped in team building (usually before making concrete activity together volunteers play one more game for team building) and in expectations (we discussed general expectations from the project and moved the part about training’s expectation to presentation of the program of training).

     ndDay 2

    The main topic of the day is going deeper to EVS philosophy and realizing of meaning of EVS. At the end of the day participants are expected to formulate their goals and possibilities of

    making EVS in Russia, to clarify EVS meaning and understand technical standards of EVS. They also have to be able to plan their projects and achieve success in those projects. Particapants of this training decided they prefer to discover project management in practice, that’s why the organizing of the event for disabled children living in the same place was included to the program instead of training’s exercises.

    The main idea of a day was showing for participants varieties of different attitudes and human’s behavior based on cultural aspects, traditions and social conditions. Second, the aim of day was to discover Russian culture in social aspects, to prevent cultural shock of volunteers during their

    EVS period.

     thDay 4

    That was the first on-arrival training where participants had a chance to train they skills in making projects, planning, organizing and leading mini-projects for disabled children lived on the base of training (about 100 children). A day before they generated the idea of making discovering tour around countries volunteers represented for children and their parents.

     thDay 5

    That was a traditional part of on-arrival trainings when volunteers can touch Russian culture through hand-crafts and history. It includes visits to the museum of the history of N.Novgorod region and the factory producing Khohloma souvenirs and Matreshkas.

The aim of a day is preparing of volunteers to manage situations expecting for them during

    EVS, starting from misunderstanding with flat mates and finishing with facing ethnical conflicts. This day includes quite bug amount of psychological knowledge and practices.

    The main conclusions of the training (volunteers impressions):

    - I can do something really good for Russian children

    - A lot of things in Russia doesn’t mean the same how they look like from our point of


    - We have a Team of EVS volunteers, we have created Team Spirit during on-arrival, so I

    am not alone here

    - EVS gives a huge possibilities for learning as through life as through the project

    - The only way to manage any conflict to try (at least) to HEAR the opponent

    - On-arrival training is a real value for volunteers to feel prepared to life in EVS, and

    especially necessary in EECA countries
