USING SPELLCHECK IN MICROSOFT WORD FOR MAC, NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGES:
Using the grammar and spellchecking functions in Word has nothing to do with the character input menu you may have been using to enter your text (the small flag menu to top upper right of the Mac screen.) Instead, you have to mark the desired text within Word as belonging to its own language. Here’s how:
Highlight the non-English text with your mouse; highlight the entire document if necessary.
Go to the Tools menu and select Language...
Pick your desired language from the list. Make sure that the Do not check spelling or grammar box is unchecked:
Now you can go back to the Tools menu and select Spelling
and Grammar... whenever you want to run your spellcheck. Once you save the document, the marked passages will retain their language designation forever until changed.
