Bideford Half Marathon Sunday 2 March 2008

Four Coasters at Bideford in ideal running conditions, 831 finishers, some good times Karen Watkins 1:38:06,

Kevin Thompson 1:43:32 (pb), Lawrence 1:52:08 (pb) and Simon Coulson 2:12:51

Llanelli Waterside Half Marathon Sunday 2 March 2008

Pat and Robin off to Llanelli in Wales, brilliant event, one of the best, friendly atmosphere with real mixed abilities,

845 finishers. Although the was race mildly undulating, the wind made up for the lack of hills, miles of traffic free

cycle tracks along the beautiful and scenic Millennium Coastal Path with superb views over the Loughor Estuary

and Gower Peninsular. Would really recommend this race, well worth the journey, Robin 1:54:05 and Pat 2:16:40

Grizzly Sunday 9 March 2008

A few brave Coasters doing the Grizzly, on what was probably the worst weekend as regards weather. They had

everything chucked at them, wind, rain, hail and of course lashings of mud and steep hills. Nathan stormed in

(excuse the pun) in 3:28:34 closely followed by Karen 3:30:57 and Ian 3:32:05, Simon Bunday 3:37:18 and Robin

Duchy Marathon and Duchy 20 Sunday 9 March 2008

Pat off to Redruth to do the Duchy Marathon, a tough marathon at the best of times but with the severe weather

warnings of wind made it even tougher. A double lap of hills and wind which seemed to get worse the second time

round. Pat doing a time of 5:11:18 and winning a trophy for first in age group. Kevin took on the challenge of the

Duchy 20 miles in preparation for the London Marathon and did a brilliant time of 2:51:33

Mad March Hare Sunday 16 March 2008

Simon and Nathan turned up to do the Mad March Hare 10k at Plympton, a flat first two miles with a hilly 3 and 4

miles with the last two flat, nice race with 215 runners, ran in near perfect conditions, Nathan first Coaster to finish

in 46:40 with Simon in close pursuit in 46:44.

Sport Relief Mile Sunday 16 March 2008

Pat and Robin put on their red and white socks to take part in the biggest race in the country, the Sport Relief 3

miles, 12 laps of Exeter Arena, with all mixed abilities taking part, the atmosphere was amazing, including the

    Morris dancers.

Bath Half Marathon Sunday 16 March 2008

Lawrence had a great time at Bath!!!!! After the rain all day Saturday, all night and Sunday morning, turned the

running village next to the Rugby ground into a bog! The race start time was put back till from 11:00 to 12:00, with

the race eventually starting at about 12:10. Only 10,000 actually took part instead of the intended 15,000, so

presumably 5,000 got fed up and went home! Lawrence finished in a time of 1:53:05 despite getting cramp at 8

miles. More chaos at the end getting back to the bog area for goodie bags/baggage.

5 Tors Moorland Race Sunday 23 March 2008

Simon Bunday the only Coaster running this weekend. Ten mile race starting at the moorland village of Minnions,

the race started in awful conditions with heavy rain and hailstones, 5 tors to tackle on bodmin moor with tough hills

and rocky ground and also a bog thrown in for good measure, Simon Bunday said this was one of the toughest 10

milers he had ever done, finishing in a time of 1:40:10, all 107 runners received a Easter egg and medal

Bike ride Monday 24 March 2008

A handful of intrepid Coasters (Brett, Michelle, Jane, Big Al, Robin and Pat) ventured out in the rain for the bike ride

along the Granite Way, despite the rain to start with a good time was had by all. Coffee and sandwiches to start

with on the station at Okehampton, followed by lunch at the Bearslake Inn, with more sustenance, hot chocolate

and cake, at the Meldon Railway Carriage cafe on the return journey, the biking was good too!

Sporting Question Tuesday 25 March 2008

We gathered with our clever heads on, in our club colours, at the Langstone Cliff for the third ‘Sporting Question’

courtesy of the Dawlish and Teignmouth Round Table. Ten rounds of sporting questions, some hard, some not so

hard. We did well with all 3 teams winning a total of ?180. Special mention to John’s team 3 who did very well and

won ?100. We even had our own team of supporters.

Teignbridge Ten Sunday 30 March 2008

Four Coasters doing the Teignbridge Ten in warm sunny weather, two lap course, Sara had a brilliant run, first

Coaster home in 1:12:26, followed on by Jim 1:19:17, Lawrence had an interesting run, spending the whole race

chasing WRN runners! in a time of 1:25:07 and David 1:36:42 who was beaten by about 4 minutes by his son

    (wearing Bermuda shorts)!

and finally
