“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” I
believe American citizens can’t be more familiar with this sentence,
which is the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The sad truth is, however, this right seems to have been put in the wrong place by some people today. After going through all those tragedies caused by those cold and bloody machines, people in the United States should be aware that banning guns among the populace can’t be waited anymore.
When the first group of Europeans landed on the New World named as America later on, facing the severe environment, guns were their mot important tools to survive, to fight against the monsters and native Indians. Thus, we have to admit that guns was a dispensable part in the establishment and development of the United States, without which American people won’t be able to survive and thrive to today’s position.
Nevertheless, the time when guns were needed to fight against external dangers is gone, instead more and more people are using them to harm innocent people and sometimes even themselves. James Madison, the guy who mainly wrote the U.S. Constitution, once said: “Liberty may be
endangered by the abuse of liberty as well as the abuses of power.” It
seems to be very true in today’s world. Isn’t it quite ironic that things as
guns which were used to help people seek for liberty become a threat to
people’s lives which is the basis in the pursuit of liberty?
The U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. And about 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said. These large figures undoubtedly are threatening ordinary people’s sense of safety and they do mean something. Take the gun shot happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the village of Sandy Hook in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012 as an example. What’s wrong with those pure and innocent children? Why would the criminal vent his anger to these lovely kids? Those lives are just beginning to know this world, but suddenly their whole lives ended in blood without even figuring out what was going on. Have the shooter thought about how many families would be broken after his several-second shooting? Obviously no. Crazy and insane people with hatred and anger just live in this world and we can do nothing with them because they don’t even care about their lives, which is the most terrible thing. But what we can do is to cut the origin of crimes. Undoubtedly, banning guns is the most effective way.
And also, guns is the spring of committing suicide.
Well, surly I don’t mean banning guns can avoid people from using other ways to commit crimes, which is obviously impossible. I have to admit that there are too many ways to commit crimes like But it’s
obvious that shooting is the easiest and quickest and clearest way to kill people. So by banning guns, the rate of crimes will be reduced because the main method is killed. At the same time, there must be some voice saying:“It’s not the guns that kills people, but is the people ”, which is
nonsense to me. Though the deveils in people’s hearts are always hanging
around, if there is no way for them them release these eveil spirits , how would those bloody things ever happen?
The Founding Fathers of the United Stated put the Second Amendment for a good reason, which was to protect their people against a tyrannical government. Freedom is something people pursuit and fight for all the time, but the kind of freedom chased by people by doing harm to other people’s benefits even lives are not noble and should not be praised. The most basic right of human beings is the right of living. But this right can be so easily ruined with the cold and bloody machine in America, the
country which has the highest rate of people possessing guns in the world. Some American people would argue that“I have every right to protect my
own benefits and rights.” Yes, of course you have, but what about other
people’s happiness of being alive, they deserve death just because they stepped on your lawn or hit your car? Problems can absolutely also be solved without using such violent and bloody ways.
