Art & Artists-in-Residence
The PTA raises and provides funding for Visual, Vocal and Theatre Arts. The school‘s Art Committee
serves as advisors to the PTA Board on arts education, and also interviews and selects the Artists in
Visual art instruction takes place weekly in a dedicated art classroom and is a highlight for many
students. All of the arts are important because they allow students to express themselves in a wide
variety of ways, whether with paint, glue, song or instruments.
Student art work is often seen gracing the hallways and classrooms. A few times each year there is
an Art Walk when guests can view a selection of student work throughout the school, often in
conjunction with a school concert. Art work is also created for Greenwood‘s Annual Auction.
Students and teachers often collaborate to provide unique pieces, such as quilts and tile projects.
The beautiful auction art raises monies for future Artists in Residence. We are fortunate to have the
variety of arts instruction available at Greenwood Elementary throughout the year.
Greenwood‘s Spring Auction is the largest fundraiser of the year. There is both a silent and live
auction that includes classroom art pieces, vacation packages, fun activities/parties, gift certificates,
wine, delicious desserts and lots and lots more.
The 2010 Spring Fundraiser will be held Saturday April 10, 2010 and in honor of the 100-year
anniversary of Greenwood Elementary, we are inviting any alumni (21 and over) to join our evening
Auction Committee - planning meetings start in the Fall to make sure this event is a fun-filled
evening with lots of opportunities to raise money for our school. It really is a ‗can‘t miss‘ event.
If you like having fun and would like to be a member of this year‘s Auction Committee, contact Anne
Musquiz, Traci Underhill and Stacie Van den Dyssel at email@example.com.

The annual Book Fair is a fundraiser for the library. For every book purchased, our school is able to
keep a generous portion of the proceeds that is used to supplement the library budget. In the past,
Book Fair proceeds have paid for classroom sets of literature, atlases and geography materials, and
new and popular fiction and nonfiction titles.
This year our Book Fair will be held in December. We‘ll be open before and after school in the library
and also during our 100-year celebration. Come support the library by buying some great books. If
you are interested in volunteering for the Book Fair, please contact Jessica McAdams at

For the second year, ―Greenwood‘s Got Talent‖, a fun-filled talent show will be held in the Spring.
It‘s a great way to showcase your child‘s talents, whether they be singing, dancing, playing an
instrument, reading a poem or something else unique.
Teacher Grants and Allowances
Another way we put your dollars to work is to help support our wonderful teachers. They are the
foundation for our children‘s education. The PTA provides an allowance for each teacher to use at
their discretion for supplies, furnishings, etc. whatever they feel they need for the students or
classrooms. In addition to the allowances, teacher grants are also available upon application and
approval by the PTA.
None of the PTA and school successes would be possible without the help of you, our volunteers.
Thank you for everything that you contribute – your time, your room-parenting - sewing – construction – baking – sales – painting skills – and the list goes on and on. Each of our fundraisers
and events needs volunteers. For more information and to find out more about opportunities, please
contact our wonderful Volunteer Coordinator, Susan Tye at firstname.lastname@example.org or 252-1410.
Z – Okay so none of our events or fundraising activities actually start with a Z but we know there
must be one out there. If you can think of one and want to share, we‘d love to hear from you.
Send us an email, call us, send us a note in Kid Mail, mail us something – we want to know what great ideas are out there. We are looking to you, our wonderful families, to help support the PTA‘s mission and programs.
