    ? Current Research Interests: Include isolation, identification and

    characterization of bioactive natural products from traditional medicinal

    herbs/plants to develop biosynthesis of natural products and microbial

    transformations of bioactive chemical constituents and determine their structure-

    activity relationship by advanced chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques

    especially one- and two- dimensional NMR, mass spectrometry, UV and IR

    spectrophotometer. The pure chemical compounds and various fractions of extract

    are examined to discern their modes of action, and biological activity; anti-

    microbial, anti-viral, anti-malarial, anti-cancer, anti-HIV, anti-inflammatory, anti-

    diabetic, anti-oxidant, and lipoxygenase-inhibition activity etc.


    ? To isolate/synthesize new pharmaceutical compounds from natural sources such

    as traditional medicinal herbs/plants, marine organisms, and microorganisms to

    develop biosynthesis of natural products and microbial transformations of

    bioactive natural products and determine their structure-activity relationship using

    by various analytical/chromatographic techniques; such as column

    chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas

    chromatography (GC) and thin/thick layer chromatography (TLC), bio-gel

    column chromatography and the structure of the pure secondary metabolites is 1established with the aid of extensive spectroscopic studies: one-dimensional (H-13NMR, C-NMR, DEPT, NOE), two-dimensional (COSY, NOESY, TOCSY,

    HMQC, HMBC) NMR experiments, mass spectrometry (EI, CI, FAB, FD, GC-

    MS, and linked scan), UV and IR spectrophotometer and characterize pure

    chemical constituents are examined to discern their modes of action, and

    biological activity; anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-malarial, anti-cancer, anti-HIV,

    anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, and lipoxygenase-inhibition

    activity and Neuroprotective actions etc. Their potential application as novel

    medicinal agents into the basic research of life sciences and standardize as

    clinically useful medications.

? To establish an institutional committee competent to oversee the institution's

    animal program, facilities, and projects involving the use of animals. This

    committee has been designated as the Institutional Animal Care and Use

    Committee (IACUC). Carrying out meaningful scientific research through the use

    of laboratory animals in accordance with humane standards under the provisions

    of the Public Health Service Policy.
