the second year running, this is an award that recognises the strong link that we have with Wallingford school and the assistance that they give us.
The UK award ceremony to be held in Birmingham. We will now be put
forward for the national award.
thThe award night will be on Wednesday 12 November at
6.15pm at Wallingford School. There are around 35
awards to present (including a prize to the winning team
from the summer’s sponsored relay event) and there will
be refreshments available. We want as many parents to come as possible. The training session on this day will be a fun sportshall
type of event and the children will be put into teams. We are
endeavouring to raise funds for Whizz Kids the charity that provides
mobility equipment for disabled children. This charity is supported by
Joy Trigg, our coach, and we will be asking for a minimum donation of ?1
from each child competing.
We have begun our nominations for:
Club athlete, Most improved Newby, Most committed Athlete
In all age groups and overall club champion. This year we will also be
asking the athletes to vote for their team captain for this seasons cross
country and sportshall meetings.
Amy Brooker attended a weeks training camp at Brunel University where
she met and trained with a wide variety of athletes both beginners and
internationals. She also met Linford Christie and got to hold the Olympic
gold medal he won. At the end of the week Amy was awarded a Trophy
for the most promising athlete. A similar camp will run in December if
you are interested in attending let me know.
The club would not be able to run without the huge amount of work put in
by our coaches. To make their job easier we are looking for parents to
help with coaching and admin on a Monday and Wednesday evening. This
could be done on a rota system if enough people come forward, also if you
would like to help coach the under 11’s, (great fun) please feel free to
have a chat to one of us during a session.
