General Board / Committee Chair Positions

The committees listed below help our PTA run effectively and make a direct positive
impact on our children’s educational experience. Please consider sharing your time and
talent with our school. You may choose to be the chair (leader) or a committee member
(worker bee). After reading the descriptions, please complete the form below and tell us
how you can help our PTA and school be the best it can be.

Annual Campaign – Work with Fundraising chair to plan annual campaign, collect and receipt money, keep donor spreadsheet. Follow-up with matching fund gifts.
Art By Me – Coordinate this PTA fundraiser with our Art Teacher.
Art Gallery – Help maintain student art gallery. Change up artwork. Select items to exchange with our sister school.
Book Fair – Work with our Media Center Staff and book fair vendors to set-up book fair, get volunteers to help with sales, and plan a staff kick off event.
Box Tops – Collect box tops and turn in to General Mills.
Bear Night Out – Plan schedule with restaurants, send reminders home to families.
Beautification – Organize projects both inside our school and out to make our school look great. Current project ideas include class gardens and a student art gallery.
Beginner Day – Plan a fun informative morning for children and families that will join our class in the New Year.
Character Ed – Work in classrooms teaching kids about character traits. Includes books, videos, and small craft projects.
Club Coordinator –Collect records of club times and locations, club members and phone numbers. Help VP Programs get clubs organized at beginning of year.
Club Leaders – Share your gifts to lead a new club or help out an existing club. Suggestions for new clubs are Legos, Gardening, and Art Appreciation. We are always
open to new ideas too. Existing clubs are: Chess, Girls on the Run, Scrabble, Drama, &
Photography. Play Spanish, Odyssey of the Mind, & Chorus are also offered through the
Class Parent Coordinator - Be a point of contact for the class parents. Send email
communications out to our families.
Membership – Oversee the PTA membership drive including maintaining database records, collecting dues, and completing NC PTA membership requirements.
Community Outreach – Help solicit businesses to donate goods and services for PTA
events. Help organize charitable events/ giving for our school. Plan activities/ share info
about events in the Ballantyne area for our families to attend such as runs and movies.
Be a contact for BES families in need.
Cultural Arts - Plan performances/assemblies at school for all grades at a minimum of 4
times a year.

the year fifth grade activities and promotion reception.
Family Dinners – Contact restaurants to come cater a meal at our school once in the fall and once in the spring. Make a flier for our families, maintain reservation info. & get
volunteers to decorate & clean up.
Fall / Spring Family Event – Plan a special event for our families to get together in the
fall. Events this past year were family activities night and BES Talent Show. Other ideas
may be a dance, carnival, bingo, etc.
Field Day – Assist our PE teacher in recruiting field day volunteers to man activity stations.
Garden Coordinator – help teachers plan activities in our school garden area. Get supplies, seeds etc. Maintain garden area.
Hospitality: Organize staff breakfasts/lunches 3 – 4 times per year.
Health Room volunteers: Take a shift handing out band aids, ice packs and giving some
attention to kids not feeling their best when our nurse is not available.
Historian – Keep the history of our school, clip articles and pictures that appear in print.
Lost and Found – Sort through items and return items with names on them. Drop off unclaimed items to good will or other charity.
Lunch Room volunteers: Let our teachers have a few minutes away from the kids to
enjoy lunch and conversing with their co-workers. Hand out straws, ketchup, napkins and
help maintain order in our school cafeteria.
New Families – Be a contact for new families to learn about our school / PTA. Newsletter – Help print and sort copies of monthly newsletter to send home to families.
Proctors – I will proctor exams as needed
Publicity- Submit photos and articles about BES events and activities to our local papers.
Reflections – Provide information to our families about this PTA arts contest, gather and judge entries, send entries to PTA office
Sunshine: Help the PTA recognize staff birthdays and other special occasions throughout
School Directory – Gather current contact information for our families and print a school
School Mates - Organize activities and volunteers between BES and our sister school
University Park Creative Arts.
School Store – Sell small school spirit items once per week.
Specials Liaison – Be the PTA contact person for the special area teachers to ask
questions and seek help from the PTA.
Spirit Wear – Pick out stylish t’s, hoodies, etc. to sell to our families/staff. Work with vendor on pricing and orders. Send out ordering information and pricing to our families.
Keep inventory records and sell spirit wear through out the year and at all PTA events.
Volunteer Coordinator: Maintain a list of people willing to be called on to volunteer at
our school when needed for general duties. Assist Terri O’Leary for last minute volunteer
needs for proctors, JA, etc at BES.
Website - Update info and pictures to PTA website frequently.
Yearbook – Take photos, collect photos and lay out our yearbook. Send purchase information home to our families.
