    Accountant II: Full Time, FLSA Exempt, Benefit Eligible Work Week: M-F, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (Summer 7:00 AM 4:00 PM)

    Salary Range: Accountant I: $ 19.7813 - $21.2902 per hour DOE

    Accountant II: $ 48,922.02 - $54,420.00 annually DOE

SPECIAL POSITION INFORMATION

We are looking for an Accountant II but are willing to hire an Accountant I to train and advance to

    an Accountant II.

If there is not an accounting degree, you must detail your accounting course work on your

    application.

    POSITION INFORMATION:

ACCOUNTANT I:

Actively supports and upholds the City’s stated mission and values. Performs entry-level professional

    accounting duties in the areas of municipal accounting and internal auditing.

Under direct supervision of the Finance/Budget Manager, employees of this class apply accounting theory

    and principles in the accounting, auditing, and editing of assigned fund accounts. Employees work with a

    fair amount of independence subject to established departmental policies and procedures, referring to

    superiors for consultation on significant deviations or unusual problems.

This position is FLSA non-exempt.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

? Working knowledge, of a professional nature, of the generally accepted principles and practices of

    accounting and auditing and their application to governmental accounting systems.

? Ability to analyze, understand, and interpret financial reports.

? Ability and willingness to travel for the purpose of education in the field of governmental accounting.

? Working knowledge of office procedures and standard office machines and equipment.

? Ability to secure and determine facts through audit investigations.

? Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate financial and narrative reports.

? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, city officials,

    and the general public.

? Knowledge of computerized spreadsheets and word processors.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

? Twelve hours of documented college level accounting classes.

? Two years in an accounting or related field position.

? Three years of personal computer experience including Microsoft Word and Excel.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

? Ability to read and understand federal, state and city ordinances or laws as they relate to municipal

    budgeting and accounting.

? Previous experience working with a computerized accounting system.

? Previous experience or exposure to municipal budgeting and accounting.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

? Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license.

? Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.

    accounting duties in the area of municipal accounting, budgeting and internal auditing.

Under direct supervision of the Finance Manager, employees of this class have reached a high level of

    technical expertise in governmental budgeting and accounting through prior experience or training as

    determined by technical proficiency. Employees work with considerable independence and are assigned

    accounting projects of a difficult or complex nature, in addition to their normal routine accounting

    assignments. This is a senior level professional accounting position.

This position is FLSA exempt.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

? Ability to analyze, understand, and interpret financial reports.

    ? Working knowledge of office procedures and standard office machines and equipment.

? Ability to secure and determine facts through audit investigations.

    ? Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate financial and narrative reports.

    ? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, city officials,

    and the general public.

    ? Considerable knowledge, of a professional nature, of the generally accepted principles and practices of

    accounting and auditing and their application to governmental accounting systems.

    ? Considerable knowledge of governmental fund accounting, general ledger and associated subsystems,

    fixed asset accounting, enterprise funds, internal auditing, and governmental reporting.

    ? Considerable knowledge of automated accounting systems, especially as they relate to governmental

    accounting.

    ? Familiarity with the preparation of a comprehensive annual financial report.

    ? Working knowledge of municipal organizations, the functioning components, and how accounting is

    integrated into the overall function.

    ? Demonstrated ability to read and understand federal, state, and city ordinances, laws, and regulations as

    they relate to municipal accounting.

? Knowledge of computerized spreadsheets and word processors.

    ? Ability and willingness to travel for the purpose of education in the field of governmental

    accounting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    ? Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of 24 accounting credits.

? Three years of professional level accounting in governmental accounting.

    ? Three years of personal computer experience including Microsoft Word and Excel.

? One year of experience working with a computerized accounting system.
