STATE LANGUAGE EDUCATION STRATEGY CONSULTATION WITH
The Victorian Government under the leadership of Steve Herbert MP, Parliamentary
Secretary for Education, has released a discussion paper on a new language education
strategy for schools in
John Pandazopoulos, MP and Jenny Mikakos MP have organised Steve Herbert to
attend a forum to discuss languages education with Victoria’s Greek Community, ndwhich will be held on Monday 22 February at 7.00 pm at the Greek Community building in Russell Street.
“It is imperative that on any discussion for a new strategy on languages that Victoria’s
large Greek community, have the opportunity to not only be briefed on the discussion
Paper, but to also have a say” John Pandazopoulos said.
“We are pleased to be joining with the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and
Victoria on a subject so dear to our hearts as Greek Australians.”
Jenny Mikakos said “Historically, Greek-Australians have been passionate about the
teaching of second languages as an important way of maintaining one’s heritage in a multicultural society”.
“We have highly talented educators in our community and it is important that we get
feedback from their own particular expertise”.

In agreement with the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria,
feedback from this forum, will be used as the basis of the Greek communities
submission to the review.
“The forum is open to all interested members of the Greek community. Stakeholder groups have been invited. But we want to hear from the broader Greek community,
and particularly from teachers” John Pandazopoulos said.
thSubmissions to the language education review close on 6 March and members of
Victoria broad Greek community can also make individual submissions, as can any
other community organisations.
