TODAY – Confirmation Sunday – Darrell and Tarell Francis and Carina Mondesire will be confirmed at the 11:00 a.m. service. A special celebration lunch will follow downstairs. All are welcome. Pastor Brown preaching ththJune 13 – Celebration of Pastor Brown’s 10 anniversary at Advent – Pastor Heidi Neumark, Trinity, 100 Street, Preacher.
We will mark this special occasion at both services and a celebration party will be held downstairs after the 11 AM service. If you

call 718-614-3889. thFinancial gifts in honor of Pastor’s 10 anniversary can be designated to either the Advent Scholarship Fund or Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. The Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for college students and seminarians who are members of the congregation; the Discretionary Fund is available to help congregation members who are in immediate financial need. June 20 – Youth Sunday – both services will be led by the Advent Youth Group.
June 27 – Pastor Sarah Brown preaching – Launch of the new Social Justice Working Group at Advent. First meeting will be
after the 11:00 a.m. service downstairs.
Ministry of Worship beyond Sunday mornings at 9 and 11 a.m.!
Wednesdays at Noon - Simple Eucharist service from 12:02-12:22 p.m. including Scripture, Prayer and Holy Communion. A Bible Study on the scripture lessons for the upcoming Sunday will follow from 12:30-1:15 pm. Come just for the Eucharist if you wish! Or
stay for refreshments and Bible Study! Services are led by Pastor Sudbrock and Pastor Brown. Common Ground Alternative Worship – Thursday night Worship service planned, led and implemented by the young adults at Advent. Worship is at 7 p.m. with a hot meal to follow in the sanctuary. Join us Thursday, June 10. The theme is “Blame Game”.
The message is by Danae Hudson. The curator is Kate Sheeran. Common Ground Offering this month– Scholarships for
Confirmation Camp. Please provide cash gifts that will enable kids to go to Campfirmation at Koinonia the first week in July.
Adult Education – 10 a.m. Sundays downstairs in the fellowship hall
June 6 and 13 – Vocation – Pastor Sudbrock will lead the session on June 6 on what the Bible says about vocation, and what Luther said! Naomi Frost will lead the session on June 13; it will include a panel of Advent lay leaders focusing on how they discern God’s
call/vocation in their daily lives.
June 20 – Youth Ministry at Advent – Steven Fuentes and Pastor Brown will lead a session on Advent’s youth ministry and how the
congregation can be involved in this important ministry.
June 27 – Lutheran Worship – What are the key elements of worship in the Lutheran tradition? How does Lutheran worship differ from that of the “free church” tradition, i.e. Mennonite, Quaker and Congregational traditions? Co-led by Pastor Brown and Carolyn
July 4 and 11 – Poetry and Spirituality – led by Quincy Lehr. A sonnet by John Donne and Wreck of the Deutschland by Hopkins will be studied these two weeks. Please look for the texts of these pieces in the upcoming newsletter and on the back table.
? Advent is starting a new Social Justice Working Group, convened by Pastor Sarah Brown. This initiative will serve as an umbrella to include Habitat for Humanity, Lutheran World Relief Malaria initiative and the Bread for the World 10K initiative. The mandate is
Jesus’ gospel call to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and care for the imprisoned. If you are interested in being

?AMHI Race to Benefit The Fistula Foundation and Mercy Ships - Saturday, June 12, 2010.
RACE DAY: Saturday, June 12, at 8am. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early. Enter at Central Park West and 77th Street.
Register at: http://movfitness.com/cp5k/register-now. After the race please come back to the church for a free brunch celebration! Today we will have a “blessing of the Runners”. After the service all runners please pick up your lime green ribbon and AMHI
logo label to wear on your t-shirt. Sponsorship envelopes are available in the pews and can be dropped off in the offering plate. If

th?The Advent Community Lunch Ministry is hosting a lunch gathering on Saturday, June 19, 12 Noon at Lauren Johnson’s home
– 697 West End Avenue, #7B. All persons currently participating in this ministry as well as all who would like to learn more about
this unique mission are invited. The Community Lunch program is a very satisfying and joyful service experience with our neighbors. If you intend to share in this lunch gathering, please contact Ms. Lauren Johnson at 212-662-1606.
?Coffee Hour!! Remember you are welcome to bring any contributions to the Sunday Coffee Hour at Advent! This is an open table; rest assured your contribution will be consumed! Just bring your item downstairs or add it to the mix on the right side of the sanctuary

Ministries of Children, Youth and Families th?Sunday School - Our end of the year “Veggie Tales” Celebration will be on June 20. Everyone is welcome to join us!
?Lighthouse –This program is for children ages 9-12. We meet upstairs in the tower loft (access by the stairway up to the balcony from the center stairs in the sanctuary) at 10 a.m. for a lesson and sharing.
?Confirmation - This is a two-year catechetical program for youth ages 12-18. Congratulations to Darrell and Tarrell Francis and Carina Mondesire who are affirming their Baptisms today. Confirmation Camp at Koinonia is July 4-9. Registrations for camp should
be sent directly to Koinonia this week.
?High School Youth Group – This program is geared for youth 16-18 who are in High School. Youth Sunday is June 20 and we will thbe leading both services. We are meeting today from 12:30-1:30 and June 19 (Saturday) from 1-4. Our summer mission trip to the
Appalachia area is in the works!
?Vacation Bible Camp - July 5-30, 2010. Cost is $500. There are spots available. Throughout our 4 week Camp, children learn a daily Bible story, make a creative project, sing songs, and enjoy time in the Park. Brochures are available on our website. Please talk to Julie
if you are able to help out and/or are interested in volunteering this summer.
?Our VBC supply/wish list is growing; We really need milk cartons (1 quart and 1 ? pint size) and paper towel tubes! Other items
on our supply list: gently used children’s books, sponges, heavy duty aluminum foil, glue sticks, colorful magazines, buttons, colorful yarn, button up shirts to be used as paint smocks, band-aids, hand sanitizer, Connect Four game, Guess Who game. ? “Sponsor a Camper”: We never want to turn anyone away from Vacation Bible Camp due to cost. You can help by sponsoring a camper. You can make a difference in the life of a child whether it is a donation of $125 to provide a scholarship for one week of
camp or any amount you are able to give. Together we can support our young children as they walk in the Word and grow in the love, joy, and strength of God.

?Community Lunch Program – URGENT!!! SERVE A GOOD CAUSE AND EXTEND A HAND TO OUR COMMUNITY
LUNCH PROGRAM. VOLUNTEERS ARE IN CRITICAL DEMAND. HELP US SUPPORT THIS VALUABLE MINISTRY TO OUR SURROUNDING COMMUNITY BY VOLUNTEERING FOR A REWARDING ROLE AT OUR NEXT LUNCHEON.
Next month's community lunch is June 26th. Please let Carlos Lopez know (email@example.com) if you are available to volunteer for
this community service event. Please sign up for a specific time slot –Saturday a.m. prep, Saturday serving, Saturday clean-up. We
particularly need dedicated prep and clean-up crews each month.
?Food Pantry - This ministry distributes free groceries. Our next pantry is Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. The Pantry is ALSO

Ministries of Friendship and Fun!
?Advent LIFE (Living In Faith and Enjoying it!) is a social ministry for twenty- and thirty-somethings that gathers monthly for fun and fellowship. Our full event schedule is at www.adventnyc.org/fellowship.

Ministries of Music
?Music Mondays: Is on break for the summer. The first concert of next season will be Monday, September 20, 2010. ?Advent Chorale – This is our classical choir, led by Aaron Wunsch (email@example.com). The Chorale rehearses every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.
?Voices of Praise Choir – This is our contemporary choir, led by Emily Ballentine Erb (firstname.lastname@example.org). Voices of Praise rehearses every Thursday in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. when there is no Common Ground Service, and at 8 p.m. on CG nights.
?Common Ground Band – This is the volunteer band led by Jordan Clawson (email@example.com) that plays for Common
Ground services on Thursday nights and sometimes for Sunday worship. The Common Ground band rehearses Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. in
the sanctuary, unless there is a Common Ground service; then, the rehearsal is at 8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
